Obi-Wan vs Zakalwe

Post by The Nomad »

Cheradenine Zakalwe from the Culture's novel Use of Weapons, with combat suit and plasma rifle

vs

Young Obi-Wan and its lightsabre.

Let the slaughter begin

How does Zakalwe compare to a drone? A baseline human?

Using my superior intellect and total mis-understanding of any of the concepts involved.... I vote Obi*! :P

*This vote was cast with absolutely no knowledge of the Culture or their abilities and is 100% biased!

He was able to defeat a special knife-missile ( equipped with nanoguns, class .7 CPU, effector... ), by out-thinking it. He was genofixed by the Culture, except that he doesn't posess glands, however he's genetically immortal. Nowhere near a baseline human. He was able to win a desperate battle on a remote planet using his outstanding strategic abilites ( hello Thrawn, a rival for you ). That's a clever bastard. IMHO he far out-classes Jango Fett.

And his suit is imprevious to anything but heavy ground weaponry, which in the present case meant either relative to the weaponry of the planet he was infiltrating ( at least more advanced than present-Earth ) or relative to Culture's weaponry, has a smart CPU, has much more strenght than 4 men, is probably imprevious to most kinetic attacks ( Player of Game mentions "passive-sensor impact-shield" mounted in jewels, for an operative ), has sophisticated sensors, and an effector.

The suit has an effector. Zakalwe uses and turns Obi Wan into a druelling vegetable, all the space of about 2 seconds

Zakalwe was always my fave SC operative, if he was to be in the film of UoW they may make I'd have him played by Bruce Willis. That's how I saw him in the book, he had quite a disturbing past too.

There's going to be a UoW film?

I had heard that there was a PoG film under development.

Banks said in SFX a few years back (release of LtW at Xmas in UK) that a UoW film had been in the works until he disagreed with the director and now it is in film purgatory I think. If Spielberg could do it though...
