I saw and posted about a PCGamer (US) interview with 3dRealms on the subject a few months ago, and if there's anyone in the gaming industry I trust, it's PCG.

I do not think it will be out then either. I have been hearing about this game for so long, at least a year and a half ago, I first heard grumblings about how they were taking too long with this game. They will probably take another year and a half to get it out.

Any word on the strippers. The screenshots at the linky you gave showed
nothing.

Although to be honest, there'd have to be full on hardcore fucking for me to give a shit now. I'll believe it when a member of SD.net posts that they went to the store to buy it, no pre-ordering bullshit.

Ahem
The company made a juicy comment. "No, you cannot pre-order the game. If you see some online store saying "We are taking pre-orders", they're just trying to get your money (they usually also make up their own supposed "insider release date info", too). There is no release date set, we are not taking pre-orders for the game. End of story."

That's retarded. You could get much better pornography in far greater quantities via the Internet, or even your local pornography retailer.

Actually, according to DNF's Wikipedia entry, the game first started development in January 1997, making it only a few months shy of the start of it's 9th year of development! Over the course of it's development the game has used three different engines, starting with Quake 2, then switching to the Unreal engine in 1998, and then recently switching to Doom 3. Each time, the vast majority of the game's content had to be scrapped. As I recall, they've switched their physics engine at least once. The game recieved Vaporware awards from Wired Magazine in 2001, 2002, and finally in 2003 they were given the Vaporware Lifetime Achievement award, after which everyone pretty much stopped caring.

I remember getting all giddy and excited over the now ancient E3 2001 video demo. I remember finishing the Atomic Edition of Duke3D and seeing a screen that proclaimed "Look for Duke Nukem Forever! Coming Soon!" I guess by "soon" they meant "sometime before the start of the next ice age, maybe."

By the time this game comes out, Duke's power-ups will have to include a bottle of Geritol and a package of "Oops! I Crapped My Pants" diapers.

I seriously doubt this game will ever see the light of day.

Am I missing something but aren't there huge licensing fees associated with using a particular engine? I last heard one hundred thousand dollars for the Unreal engine, although that could be an out-of-date figure.

Where the hell do they get the money, don't tell me all those shareware Duke Nukems paid off, or that Duke Nukem is still doing well in the bargain bin!

They have been 'working' on this game since 1997? What a bunch of losers....I wonder why they even still have jobs in the gaming sector.

More intrestlingly, wheres the cashflow? Unlike Valve, they don't have a Half Life keeping up the cashflow throughout the years.

Yea seriously, I thought it was accepted by now that this game was just sort of stuck in a space Time warp where it would always be "Another year" before realise.

Eh, they're financing the development by themselves. There's no outside producer, to my knowledge. Originally starting as the famous Apogee Software, 3D Realms used to be a huge name in the gaming industry in 1980s and early 1990s, at the time when shareware games were far from the obscure niche that they nowadays are. By producing the both Max Payne games they've also made quite a profit.

This game is scheduled for release the day after the Book of Revelation's events take place. I'm not holding my breath.

They did. The 3D Realms logo is on my Max Payne 2 box though I'm not quite sure what they had to do with it.

That was before Duke Nukem 3D, and it was just titled "Duke Nukem". I have that game.
