My second trial is going, actually, because I believe 1.1 won through eating the crippled "1.2" experiment's circle (there were only 50 by the popcap)

I have started a double, and the 1.1 and Master Race populations exactly match up- they make the same line. 1.1 is actually composed of 5 1.1 standards, and 5 1.21s with corrected turning genes altered to look purple (for interbreeding purposes).

So much for superiority, although your race appears to still be faster.

Edit- As of 10000 Ticks, How the fuck does your race survive being starved for so long? I had equal numbers and 1.21s were already crossing the gap to eat the edges of your circle when suddenly my population collapsed from lack of food while Master Races kept merrily swimming halfway across the map to eat a single dot.

As of 22800 Ticks, all Purple 1.21 are dead. A sample was taken during their decline as an improved 1.22 and 1.221 were spotted. The master Race's virulence nearly exterminated themselves, but they were able to get to the last enclave of my Purples and eat the food. If they had not, the two would still have been going, albeit with mine greatly reduced.

I tried, man. The Purple 1.221 are better at homeostasis (they don't RAWR and eat everything so fast new units don't appear quickly, so unless somebody takes the food from under them they'll never lose). If the Master Race were not so damnably efficient with their tailstrokes they wouldn't eat as fast, reproduce as fast, and thus be as agressive. They likely would not be anything remarkable without that fast flick of the tail. Try moving a single movement or turning slider to see how lucky that mutation that made them was.

I placed two Christmas Ninja V1.5 and two Master Race in seperate parts of the "Double" setup, far away from the main circle, after giving the randoms 15000 Ticks headstart, just to see what demented offspring they would produce. Eventually I had to nuke the second circle to avoid mass Master Race spawn from just two of them. Christmas Ninjas and their Orange-Blue "Gator Ninja" mutant brethren dominated everything created by the computer, so at least I accomplished that mission.

I think the efficiency of that tail-stroke is what makes them so resistant to starvation. If they consumed anything more than a minimum of energy relative to distance, their aggressiveness would burn them out.

I think efficiency is the purples problem. I threw eight of them into one big circle with eight of my own red two-leggers, and the purples leapt out to a huge lead of nearly two to one. But as the circle was consumed and more movement was required, my own guys took over. At 16k clicks, the purples are down to less than half of what the reds have. Those long swimming strokes the purples use just take up too much energy.

**EDIT: It's official, my two-leggers have cacked the purples.

When I set all my species to the same color and turned them loose, I really thought the two and four-leggers increased attractiveness to mates would have an impact. But the Master Race just bred them all into extinction.

I can only conclude that since the "randomly evolved" MR can whip the best designs of man... it must have been created by GOD!

Well you can say this much for the ChristmasNinjas: They beat the shit out of the Swastikas. I have no idea how a race as incompetent as the Swastikas ever won a map. Still, the CN can beat at least one naturally evolved pond-winner.

Yep, I'm still awake. I've given up trying to build the greatest swimmers in the universe, and now I'm playing Frankenstein.

** I took some of my own two-leggers, and crossbred them with the "nuala" swimmers from the default DNAFILES folder. Despite having the same number of limbs, the two swim in totally different fashions. The offspring were truly bizzare. Most were essentially retarded, and died. One could creep along ChristmasNinja-style and looked kinda viable, so I dubbed it Crawler and kept a sample. Another was just such a goddamn freak that I couldn't let nature take it's course, so I called it Hippy and saved it as well.

** For shits and giggles, I set one Hippy and one Master Race down in a circle of food. Let me tell you, that one MR swam around breeding with it's own cripplingly retarded offspring until the moment it died of old age. I snapped up one real degenerate and named it Thrasher, but eventually the colony came to consist of a bunch of swimmers who all looked like the Master Race, but were totally inept. After 20k ticks with food all over the place, the population was only up to 40.

How did you guys manage to get it to work? It won't work on my system... fails with an error message about not being able to set mode to 640x480, then closes. I tried setting the compatiblity mode to Win95 and all, and it ain't working.

I don't know why it isn't working for you. I know it runs in a different resolution, but it changes back and forth fine for me.

** Crawler is a retard, and not even a funny one like Hippy. Off to the trash with him.

** One of the TwoLegs/Nuala hybrids I forgot to mention is one I dubbed Squiddy. He looks and operates like ChristmasNinja's calmer brother. He doesn't multiply as quickly, but neither does he suffer the sudden population crashes of a fast multiplier that expends a lot of energy. Squiddy and ChristmasNinja held each other even when I put them head to head, although I didn't bother to play it out to the bitter end.

I just ran a pool overnight for 500,000 Ticks. I figure a dominant race would establish and it'd burn itself out, but the very fastest would survive. I have dubbed them "Frogger". They can't turn nearly at all except to reverse couse, but go faster straight than the Master Race.

1.1 Genemod for them has fixed the turning... I hope. They essentially are Purples with a broader surface area for their strokes and a calmer, more "cruising" stroke where they ride their momentum out before stroking again. I dunno if that'll actually help against the Master Race or even the fertile little purple bastards.

Edit- I fail at God. The turning sucks on them despite their really good movement capabilities.

Here's something embarrassing- I placed 10 Purple Race in a "Double" arena and gave them 10000 clicks head start. Then I placed 10 Master Race in the other circle (the Purple were just arriving there, too.) By 13000 Ticks the Master Race hit the lead, and hit the popcap at 380-ish aas my Purples died off (they all were headed for the Master Race pool just as the master Race were placed...). By 30000 Ticks the Master Race has killed all the purples except a few of their color-mutated offspring, thus confirming from creation to food-induced burnout of just about everybody (including themselves) the Master Race does 20000 Ticks for 10 starters.

Another pool is running now to see if I can get another Race. The dominant races so far are the Green-Blue 3-legged hybrids called Ass-Draggers (move like dogs dragging their ass on carpets) (Formed from 4-legged Blue Psuedo-"Christmas Ninja Ancestors" and 2-legged Green "Purple Race"-like swimmers).

Master Race reminds me of I. Infernus from a different game I played, where you could program the movement of the species in the game and they could attack one another. Infernus could recognize its allies and would attack enemies, swarming around them until they were overwhelmed. People were told not to upload them to the shared server because they would eat everyone elses' species. I believe they were defeated by an offshoot of their own race made to defeat their friendly fire programming.

I eventually actually defeated them once by programming Slaver Sunflowers, plants that would fire machine gun bursts of attacks when enemies came to eat them, sacrificing themselves for the part, although gunplants are really a cheat in that game.

I started off with a "garden of eden", twiddled with the ecology settings a bit, and at 10000 ticks there's already distinct races emerging.

I'm taking a mostly "hands-off" approach mostly because I don't really know what I'm doing.

[Interestingly, this is not a technically "Pure" Master Race you sent me, LordShaithis. Look at the Second To Last Gene. It's mutated at least twice (0.0002) assuming the near-0.4 is because you artifically induced their color upon pronouncing them finished. They're probably slightly different from the original "Master Race"]

If it wins, Post the save file it so we can see what sort of monstrosity you've created.

All Swimmers are the same "species", as they can interbreed, but they form subspecies by sexual selection so unless mutations give them new colors swimmers will often die rather than breed with a different 'kind'.

Of course, the Garden of Eden randomly generates colors so you often get races like "blue-red-orange-purple" or "Green 2/3rds Blue 1/3rd"

Spawn a "Double" Garden of Eden, pause ASAP, and then erase all the swimmers with that square eraser tool. Unpause to make the corpses go away, pause, and place 10 Master Race and 10 of your Race in each one.

That's what we've done standard. Assuming your race is raped like the Master Race has done to everything else I've thrown at it it'll be over in 20,000 Ticks when the Master Race reaches Critical Mass, eats every food particle as fast as they spawn, and then everybody except the Master Race dies from hunger (MRs being able to swim ultra-fast to new particles as they generate).

On the top menu, go to Pond. Then select Garden of Eden from the drop-down. It will give you a list of potential map types. Choose Double, then erase all the existing swimmers as described. The pause function is under the Options menu.

Anyway, I left a fresh Colors pond to run overnight, and it spawned a goofy three-legged strain I've named Tripod. I have it up against Swastika on a Double map right now, and it appears to be winning. After that it'll go against ChristmasNinja and/or Squiddy to see if it can earn a C. I have a feeling the Purples will whip it's ass though.
