Ok, in Isard's Revenge (eigth Rogue Squadron book, IIRC) they design this station that essentially meant to lock down a system and bring it completely under the control of whoever happens to be in control of the station.
They included the ability to set up a system-wide interdiction field, had multiple superlasers, any one of which was capable of blowing the biggest of capital ships to pieces ala the DSII, and several other wank-tastic abilities. They were called puslar stations by the Republic people who studied them once plans were captured.
None were built, however, as it was just a diversion set up by Isard, but still...
How would actually building Pulsar Stations change things for SW in vrs scenarios? They couldn't lock down systems for most verses as they tend not to use gravitationally-weakened FTL drives, but the whole wipe out incoming capship fleets without really trying thing comes in handy.
How would things change with pulsar stations?

^ Um, yeah, it surely does. It's an eminently practical weapon. It wouldn't be able to waste a shielded planet like the DS could, but multiple superlasers means it can engage multiple capital ships. The sphere configuration is perfect for attack and defense from all sides.
Only issue: it's smaller, and therefore probably not as well shielded. The possibility exists of of an overwhelming force of capital ships taking it out, or possibly even one lucky shot from an Eclipse-type axial superlaser. A gap in the shields would leave superlasers vulnerable to fighter attack. Still, it's a pretty decent bang for your buck. I'm surprised that a) it took Isard to think of it and b) no one ever built one.

Simply put it would be a fleet killer. A massive fleet attacking it needs interduction ships of its own to stop it. The Pulsar station can kill those easily and hype out before taking to much damage. Likley sending half a dozen or more Captial ships down before doing it.
It would need some sort of massive fighter attack and/or as mentioned a mini-superlaser to core it in order to finish it off.
