MORTAL KOMBAAAAAAAAT!!! 8.5 out of 10 (Chardok-o-meter)
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks
You know, I often find myself feeling somewhat violated when game developers take a tried and true game with a deep storyline, involved characters, and three movies to it's credit and whack off an elephant to dump rancid spooge all over the entire concept...
Well, MK:SM is exactly that. A bucket full of elephant spooge dumped all over the whole premise of Mortal Kombat. But I'll be damned if it doesn't make this game glisten and shine. (Meaning it's good.) It's kind of Final Fight meets Jade Empire and a little bit of Good old Fashioned platforming-All with a decidedly Mortal Kombat twist. The character selection is somewhat lacking, only being able to pick 4 characters (2 to start, and 2 unlockable) and Liu Kang's incessant WAH! HI-YA! ABLHABABLHABLABABLABBBLLBBLALBA (bicycle kick) get's REALLY annoying (You can turn speech off, though, just gotta be quick so you can turn it back on for the cutscenes.
Speaking of cutscenes, there's a LOT. I mean a lot. neat story, though, even if it is the same old "Save earth Realm from Shao Khan/Shang Tsung outworld used to be beautiful blah blah blah. The Graphics are polished and well textured, so the blah storyline is easily forgiven. The fighting is well done, and all of the characters moves are there, and they are upgradeable, so there is the element of unlockiness that I enjoy so much.
Short review: Get this game. Renting will not do it justice. This one gets high marks and the old chardok-o-meter. A Definate purchase.

Fun game, but definitly get another person in. Game bosses can be fun to biatch motherfuck levels.
VAing is eh, but you gotta laugh at the camp. And a few times you will get annoyed at what they expect of you.
Still fun game if you want a good two player and shredded X-Men Legends 2.

So they're finally continuing the MK:Mythologies series after Sub-Zero?

I saw on Cinematech a longass cutscene where just about all the MK fighers were beating the crap out of each other (with Johnny Cage getting especially beat down), before Lao and Kang are knocked into a pit. Is that the intro? It was friggen sweet!
"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know...tomorrow."

It was cool, but I imagine way better with co-op. Of course that would mean I'd need a second controller and a second player. Two things I lack right now.
I got my ass kicked in the second level though. I get stuck at that second barrier (just after the platforms with the spikes in between and fire statues). The fuck? I used the two catapaults that I saw and it's still there!
