I think he's refering to the idea of allowing more than one person to run each nation, not the alliances.SirNitram wrote:...How strange. Permenant sides? Well, these are sides each controlling 1 nation, not an alliance... It represented intrigue at royal courts and parliaments pretty well.SirNitram wrote:...How strange. Permenant sides? Especially when people started dealing with other nations behind the others backs.
Ah, that sounds like it could make things here very, very interesting.weemadando wrote:Well, these are sides each controlling 1 nation, not an alliance... Could the people who aren't "commander-in-chief" still order around units and whatnot? I could see that leading to some nastiness. Hell, if Thirdfain allows it, maybe these upstarts in these groups could form their own breakaway republics or whatever?

That's the point - all the maneuvering etc happens WITHIN the faction. The 3 players are all equal and have an equal vote in what happens. Getting the votes to support your own agenda however - that can be something else entirely.
Thus, should someone in Russia be dealing with France and wanting a military assault on Germany, then they'd be dealing with the French players in standard "Diplomacy" style - but in their own "parliament/court", they'd be trying to convince the other 2 players to go with their plan.

If there are still places going then stick my name of the proverbial sign up sheet please!

Trust me on this one, set teams with nations (e.g., 3 vs. 4 or 2 vs. 2 vs. 3, etc.) suck donkey balls. I've played numerous variations of Dip (and have even created one or two of my own), have GMed several games of it, played in a couple of Dip tourneys, etc. Hell, even part of a Dip message board!SirNitram wrote:...How strange. The first I ever played though, was when there were 4-5 people per nation, because it was a class 'project' in high school. Though, it does make things a little more interesting at times, too, because members of each team will, at times, disagree with strategy, etc.

I'll help out if someone drops out.

I'm going to be rather busy and am new to the game, so I won't be able to devote much attention to the game. Thus, I would like to request padawan status to an experienced player of the game, rather than autonomous status as a country.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

In 9 and a half hours, I'm doing the selection, to see who gets priority for nation selection.
Nation selection progresses thusly: At midnight tonight, I'll roll a D100 for each of the 7 players. Highest number will pick first, lowest picks last, any ties will be re-rolled. Then, the six highest players get to pick their nations in order. The 7th guy gets whatever nation is left over.
To help you guys think about what nations you'll want to pick once you've been given priority, I'm putting up the map of Europe at game start. I assume everyone's read the rules MRDOD posted.
