Despite reading the article here, to show my support I'm going to go buy a copy of Esquire at lunch today, and perhaps even email the editor to give my thanks for such an article.
Regarding any possible turnback from 'Idiot America' - well, my thoughts are that America today bears many similarities in political and social outlook to the McCarthyite period in American history. It's a climate of fear. In climates of fear some normally reasonable people can turn to extreme beliefs in order to feel safe.
The sixties and seventies, following the strictness of the fifties, were a time of rebellion and renewal by people who were tired of the strict, fundies ways.
Perhaps that will happen again.

She was pretty damn good in Blade: Trinity. Say what you will about the movie, but her character and Hannibal King were a heck of a lot of fun to watch.Elfdart wrote:Great article. I just bought my copy.
By the way, Jessica Biel is hot as hell. Why can't she be in any decent movies?

You've also gotta consider that since some jobs like lawyers and actors have the potential to pay significantly more than any engineer could hope to make. So you'll have millions of students trying to get a job in those career areas because they feel it's where the big money is to be had if they can get a break, as opposed to engineering or one of the other hard science fields.Admiral Valdemar wrote:I think you should also buck-up ideas on graduates too though. China and India are producing 8 and 5 times, respectively, more engineering and science graduates than the US now. Not only has the school system crashed and burned, but so now is a slow-rot setting in with the college system. If it keeps up and follows a trend I notice in this country of more arts and humanities degrees of uselessness being issued, then not even the best politicians will help you.
Brilliant article, but all too depressingly true.
