In multiplayer, I've found that the pistols are amazingly fun to play with. Also good in singleplayer if you enjoy a more gung-ho approach.

That said, I quickly ditched them for the shotgun/penetrator/assault rifle combo of doom early on.
Do not meddle in the affairs of insomniacs, for they are cranky and can do things to you while you sleep.

They are still moronic.

By "using a shield" they hold up the damn thing(hardcoded into them) until it it goes down for a few seconds and continue attacking until it regenerates. Some of the bigger stuff really is just plain dumb. It is amazingly stupid to have something continuing to fire at you when it cant hit you and the splash damage doesnt have a chance of getting you.

Wow, it dodged the fucking slowass weapons fire at range(what is with Quake/Doom and weapons which are just faster than running speed?)... what an achievement in AI

They may be dumber in Quake 4, but they're definitely much more varied than the lameass clone soldiers of FEAR and above all much more lethal. When you play Quake 4 on the "hard" level, hard is what you get.

Quake 4 also forces me to use some manner of tactics to defeat the enemies, unlike FEAR where slow-mo sniping owns all.

Amusingly, when low on health in Q4 I find myself hitting control to even the odds. :)

I just finished FEAR (and I'm nearing the end in Quake 4). The design of the last few levels was much better than the office building, reminding of Deus Ex in several spots. However, I didn't like that "drop everything but the magically appearing pistol" at end - it felt cheap. Factoring out my let down from the hype machine, I'd say FEAR is above average, and I'd be willing to try my hand at the sequel they so strongly hinted at.
Artillery. Its what's for dinner.

Yes. Its probably my favorite weapon in the game, with the shot gun and assualt rifle right behind it.

Nothing beats the sheer visceral orgasm you get from a shotgun blast to the torso which blows your fucking target in half.

I, for one, am not impressed with FEAR. While it looks great, it feels very clunky. The way that Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from the Butcher's Bay the game was, only slightly less. I hate clunky games.

1) Guns. Ive read about this supposedly "ultra shooting feeling" works in the game. Didnt find it yet. And who is the moron who restricted the modes on guns to 3 round bursts, while putting in full auto sounds even for a single bullet?

Remember Half Life? This game had the best fucking weapons up to date, especially the Glock and the Assault Rifle (M4 meets Mp5). Sounds were just awesome and the guns felt 'right'.

2) Level design. It bored me to death. What can I say more, you all played this game, only it bothers me more than you. NOLF was a masterpiece when it came to the levels - diverse locales, believable surroundings etc.

3) atmosphere. After 30 minutes I was bored with this horror-like setting. Its just too much of it. Screams, blood and visions are stacked to the point where they become tedious.

AI is good enough, bullets'n'objects effects are great, perhaps the best up to date.

I seem to be the first one who looks critically at FEAR and I wonder why. Best ever FPP's for me were HL, NOLF and BIA.

3) I would write something more, but after playing it for 2 hours Im extremely bored & are going to sleep. Cya.
