I was a hardcore EQ player that tired of raiding after a while. I was really looking forward to WoW, especially as some of my EQ guildies knew Blizzard devs and were in starting in closed alpha.

Then the game finally came out and I played, and played, and played and got lvl 60 with like no effort. I eventually got hella bored and have since moved on.

It's like kiddy crack. The game is spoon fed to you. That's not necessarily a bad thing for casual gamers, but for a lover of EQ, it was like T-Ball for a pro baseball player.

Meest wrote:The fact that you are holding EQ in higher esteem than WoW shows issues right there :P. WoW can be played in EQ style if you want to turn it into your job not a game, but at the same time can be played as just a casual fun game.
Go read the OP again.

EQ was the fucking devil, a heap of shit that ruined the genre UO created. WoW is just EQ with less... EQness. A shit sandwich with 25% less shit.

That being said MMO's have a long way to come before they'll interest me again. Though, there is a game that is in development which mixes FPS and MMO style of gameplay. I'm very interested to see how that turns out.
Yeah. People said that FPS stuff about Planetside. Yet it seems to have flopped pretty good.

But regarding MMOs. MMORPGS in the Everquest sence all came from online MUDs, which in general were tightknit communities of maybe a hundred players each that'd try and kill stuff. And grind to level. This, when taken to a massive scale with graphics... well. It explains a lot. They're not perfect, but they're still pretty fun for killing time. I just don't get how people can play for more than like.. an hour or two a session though. Beyond me.

Planetside had the extreme problem of it was simply to hard to kill people combined with the high lag ment that FPS was almost beside the point and tatics were niegh impossible to implent with any success.

IIRC Diablo I and II only had 1 expansion each, and so did Warcraft 2 and 3.

As for how many games what about C&C, there were 6 (C&C, RA, RA2, TS, Gens, Renegade) last i counted and all the RTS's had expansions (2 in the case of RA), as compared to Warcraft's 5 (1, 2, 3 , WoW and that point and click adventure one)

If a game is popular it will get a sequel, and if it remains popular the sequels will keep coming.
