Help me quit playing Superpower!

Post by LordShaithis »

Superpower. A broken and terribly bugged piece of shit with awful graphics, very little sound, no music, and just a really unprofessional implementation all around.

I've been playing it, on and off, for years now. Help me stop. Find me a new strategy game. My new game...

A - Must take place in the real world. Keep your elves and aliens to yourself.

B - Must take place in the post-industrial era. No more swordfights, ok?

C - Must encompass the entire world. Yeah, you heard me.

What else is out there?
If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! All votes for me! Wheeee!" -- Lagmonster

Well, there's Evil Genius... but "the real world" is sort of a stretch there.

Looked up the HoI2 website. Interesting.

One question, though. Is there a time limit on the game? I mean, does it all stop when some arbitrary year is reached? Like "It's 1950, WW2 is over even if you have been dicking around for too long!" I like being weird obscure little countries, and I'd hate to have the game end just as I was getting somewhere on the path of making one a world power.

You can get little fan-made mods that make it possible to play forever.
And yes, GET HOI2.

Unlimited Time Mods work but after 1950 the events like "Austrian Anschluss" and "Britain surrenders to Axis" stop so it gets less interesting without historical/alt-historical context.

And you can play anything from Luxemburg to Russia, although I've never seen Luxemburg actually do anything or even build any troops when I play as Germany or France...

I agree with everone else that HoI2 is what you should choose but I also recommend Victoria.

I have Superpower and up until a month ago Superpower 2(until I was frustrated and trashed it) and found it ok after it was all patched up but not too exciting.

What about Superpower: Classic? Its a game played on a message board, and is very entertaining. Its either tha or HoI 2, which I also recomend.
I used to think that it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe. ~Marcus Cole, Babylon 5

The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics or cynics whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities. We need men who can dream of things that never were and ask "why not?" ~John F Kennedy Jr, 1963
