At best I would take this as "The Power of Suggestion"
At worst, it is fraud, what do you think?

I'm calling bullshit. I think it's suggestion more or less. Notice he wouldn't do it to the reporter and couldn't do it to others because they were athletes and had learned to "transfer the energy." Classic signs of bullshit. I don't know that he's being deliberately deceitful, he may actually believe it to be true, but he's not doing anything real with this touchless knockout stuff.
On a side note, his actual knockout hits are very dangerous and he really shouldn't be doing that. Two particular strikes he made, to the side of the neck and the other to the temple, on his students can be deadly and shouldn't be done for demonstrations like that. And it's a bad idea in general to knock people out because it can and will damage the brain. Particularly when you actually smack them upside the head.

You know, when I read this thread's title, I had the mental image of a fighter rearranging a room's furniture into greater harmony in the midst of an asskicking session. Sorta like if Jackie Chan became an interior decorator.
Chronological Incontinence: Time warps around the poster. The thread topic winks out of existence and reappears in 1d10 posts.

Yeah, that's definately bullshit. And even if it wouldn't have been, if it's only working on 40 % of the people, it would have been pretty useless as a defence. You don't want to use something that's more likely to fail than work to defend yourself.
The pressure points things to temporarily disable people is most real, though. I can do that (don't tell anyone though). And I can also tell you that being hit like that by someone who knows what he's doing really hurts. It also makes you dizzy and gives you a quick black out (just for a second). And that was when he apparently "just let his hand fall down" on my neck. And not even on the real weak spot you're supposed to hit either That was him being nice to me, mind you. He put his finger down my throat (in that place you cut open if you're choking) too. That was not so nice, IMHO. Uhm yeah, back on topic...
However, kicking someone on the arm to make him drop, that will not work. Unless he's a total wimp that goes down because of a little pain, of course.
I'm guessing it's suggestion at work here. Mind you, I've actually seen real people who actually believe in all of that "chi focussing" stuff. You'd think showing them that I could do the same things without focussing my chi would shut them up good, but no. They want to believe it, and as long as people want to believe it, that very same people will keep passing out because of someone throwing energy at them

National Geographic Channel did a show on this sensei's sensei (George Dillman). 2 scientists went to try and nothing happened.
George Dillman gave a very bizarre explanation. Non contact force applying is a stupid myth. The masters I know can do amazing things which are still in the laws of physics. Even the ones who talk about chi and other stuff. When it comes to applying force none of them believes in something like that.

This is hilarious. He refused to use his touchless knockout on anybody other than his students, which points to bullshit in and of itself. But then he said that athletes are less likely to be affected by it... so why the fuck were his students so affected?
As a side-note, just from ~10 seconds of video that school looks like absolute shit. I do some Karate (bear in mind, I'm not one of those jackasses who thinks I'm a master after one lesson or that I could take down somebody with 6 inches and 50 pounds on me), and here's what I noticed:
–During the sequence of kids running up to kick the target, they let their hands stay down, inviting a nice punch to the face. Stupid and wasteful.
–During the sequence with few students doing kicks in place, it was even worse: they kept they hands up at first, then let them drop down as they kicked. Once again, leaving themselves open to attack and off-balance.
–Finally, during the sequence of some of them doing katas in sync, their technique was horrifically shitty: they were half-standing in their crap stances with their knees barely bent, and they didn't even set up their hands for their blocks. I know that kata, and students who do it that poorly are taken aside for the rest of class class for tutoring on it.
So not only does it teach some mystical chi-strike that only works under certain circumstances, but the actual drills and teachings were shit too. Goddamn, my teacher is a fifth-degree black belt (instead of this magic-harnessing 7th-degree in the video) and she teaches us better than that!

Why wonder why? The answer is simple: obviously, someone somewhere decided that he or she needed Baby Jesus up the ass.

I checked the video again and I agree. Those are some horrible kicks. It looks as if some of them are even standing on their toes. And those are supposed to be black-belts? Now, I'm not sure what's required for you to know in order to get a black belt in Karate, but isn't kicks, and especially the toe-kicks, pretty basic? But meh, it's probably one of those places where you can get a black belt after only a year of "training".Lone_Prodigy wrote:–During the sequence with few students doing kicks in place, it was even worse: they kept they hands up at first, then let them drop down as they kicked. But to be fair, the guy does look a bit like the guy from "the Office"
I should also add, that when you get hit on the neck the way I mentioned before, you won't be stunned and slowly fall like in the video, you're going down immediately.

Damn, and I was sure this thread was going to be about using karate to rearrange your opponents furniture, ruining the positive flow of energy in his room and thus defeating him.
