Slow blaster bolts in Battlefront..I really don't recall that.
I do recall that I the Yavin level was a pain to beat. I could do the others just fine, but Yavin...that took quite a few tries.

FEAR is an okay game, if I were reviewing it I would give it an 80% or so. On the other hand, it is one of the most hyped games in a long time, with all kinds of advertising and reviewers swearing on a stack of bibles that its the best game in decades when by any logical standards its strictly average. It has a lot of very fine set-piece battles but not much more; there's no gameplay variety, a very flimsy story, a disappointing ending, and a lot of repetition. If you're into firefights, you'll enjoy it. I'd say it's like a first person Max Payne plus a bunch of sci-fi pap and minus the awesomeness.Aaron Ash wrote:Wautd, Ignore the naysayers - FEAR is great fun so long as you are willing to immerse yourself in it, all my friends are enjoying it too.
The only game being released in the next few months that is a definite must-have for me is Oblivion. Call of Duty 2 will probably also get purchased. The most important thing, however, will be the new video card that I have been advised that I must buy to continue enjoying new games.

After watching Quake 4 at a friend's pc, i decided to buy Fear (as planned). The horror in Fear might be not as tense as I first would have suspected (I'll see that when I start playing) but it still has fun & intense gunfights. On the other hand, Q4 gave me an impression of "been there, done that"
Next to Fear I also bought Rome:BI and Spinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (dirth cheap)
Currently looking at the gamespot videoreview of Civ 4, I'm really tempted to buy that too. Always been a fan of the series and it looks like civ4 raised the bar again

The problem is that these days what sets an FPS apart is very subtle - the an excellent firefight is not something that will seem amazing to someone else. For example, I wasn't too impressed with HL2's 'great' firefights until I loaded up another FPS of the time and realized how exciting HL2's fights were in comparison Mind you, there is definately for improvement in single player - Call of Duty, for example, was really fast and furious and gave you the illusion of serving in a large battle.
AoE3 really doesn't do the trick for me. It feels like an age-old RTS in comparison to Dawn of War, not to mention that the Total War series is beginning to dominate my concept of a "good" RTS.
For some reason, I find myself wanting more Soldiers: Heroes of WWII.
