The UK release date is the 3rd of November and amazon.co.uk is already dispatching it. I had some bad experience with the quality of UK Hardcovers though and will get the Del Rey Books version instead.

Hahah, another win for Latin-ized SW! :D
It still calls it the Victory class earlier in the paragraph.

Yes, but the original name comes from Latin, similar to the Imperial-class. Good enough for me. ;)

The name of the project hardly translates to the 'original' name for the ship itself. The atomic bomb is not 'originally' called a "Manhattan bomb" because it is the product of the Manhattan Project. The fact that the Victor Initiative Project developed the Victory-class Star Destroyer does not mean that she was originally designated Victor-class (as Ender pointed out, The New Essential Chronology retains the designation Victory-class, despite using the term "Victor Initiative Project").

Humm. Wookies tearing limbs off: Check.
Enslavement of Wookies by Vader and Moff Tarkin: Check
Elaboration of Sidious' thoughts on the Rule of Two: Check
Confirmation of Sidious murdering Plagueis in his sleep: Check

Lots of good stuff in that book. I'd give it 9/10.

Interestingly, Plagueis never knew the secret of immortality either.

True, but I can't read this as anything other than an attempt at linking the tradition of Latin names for dagger-shaped vessels in the Republic/Imperial fleets with the Victory-class. Even if only the design-project bore this name and not the class itself.

Btw. I've heard that Latin is treated as an ancient language in the SW galaxy. What is the name for it there?

There really is no reason for the Victory to be Latinized. The Latin ship class names seems to be a mainly Kuati thing, and Rendili was the primary manufacturer of the Victory (regardless of whatever help they recieved from KDY in research, other sources indicate Rendili reaped all the benefits from the Victory-class, leading KDY to respond with the Venator and the Imperator). Why should Rendili use the same naming conventions as Kuat?

I have nothing to base this hypothesis on, but it may be an ancient Kuati language, as it's most often seen used in reference to their ships.

But again, that's just idle speculation.

True, but I thought it was a fun idea and apparently so did the NEC author(s), hence the IU reference.

Two of them seem to escaped, most of the Jedi characters are still alive.
Any angst? :?
Lots. But tastefully done.

Another question -- are the Senators and public given an explanation for the damage sustained to the Senate antechamer during the Sidious/Yoda duel?

No, they're told to STFU and stop being anti-American, err, Republican. Rumour gets out that Yoda confronted Palpatine in the Senate Rotunda.
So what are Sidious' thoughts on the Rule of Two?
While there is no real need for it any more, but making multiple true sith would be more trouble than it's worth. He also notes that it wasn't a hard and fast rule, and that some Sith Lords made themselves exceptions during the 1000 years of hiding. Further, he only keeps Vader around in order to honour Darth Bane, and has no intenetion any more of letting Vader become more powerful than him and kill him.

Huh? I thought he specifically chose Anakin because he could become more powerful than him.

But now he thinks he can become immortal, and so, perpetuating the Sith lineage is pointless, because he'll always be there.

To elaborate, Darth Sidious thinks that the only things his apprentice can't do because of his injuries are summon force lightning and jump about like he used to be able to. The rest is a confidence problem.
Well I'm glad that stupid notion is contradicted. BTW, where the hell di it orginate From? The OT clearly shows that Vader is VERY powerful and the PT doesn't really contradict that.

I think it originally stemmed from his lack of spinning and twirling like an insane ballerina.

This book describes Vader's sword style as taking the best from every other known combat 'form' including the high-level ones, and combining it with superior strength.

By "strength" I assume you mean strength in the Force.

But does it go into any specifics on his cybernetic replacements? IE physically stronger, faster, etc, than he was before?

Or from one of GL's interviews. Vanity i think. We once had a thread about it.
