"Use the Force" became a popular phrase for trusting your instincts a long time ago.

I think a lot of this may have to do with the fact that Star Trek didn't really give us anything new. We had ray-guns in sci-fi long before someone decided to call them "phasers," scanners long before someone came up with the word "tricorder," and teleporters long before anyone knew what it meant to "beam someone up."

However, while the Force was obviously based on concepts of magic and mysticism that had been around for millenia before George Lucas ever picked up a pen, its presentation in the Star Wars movies wasn't quite like anything that anyone had seen before. The Star Wars movies actually had some new ideas to them, and thus those ideas can't really be refrenced now without also refrencing Star Wars, while Star Trek just took a bunch of old ideas and gave them new names.

The next generation doesn't give a flying shit about Star Trek. That's the future, gentlemen.
That's a great shame - ST has for so long been the most popular TV sci-fi. If children aren't interested in sci-fi, then what hope is there for the future of this genre? :(
Im going with kids will grow up and love StarGate and all its spinoffs that it will see before i die (i was born in 1986)
