Civilization question
Has there ever been a unique unit that was worse then the regular unit it replaced in any of the four Civilization games?

well depends on the version but II had a funny quirk with the progression on the rapid mobil types.
you could discover Chivilry AFTER you had discovered Monotheism, and actually have your units downgraded...

"Unique units" were only introduced back in Civilization III, so it's only been two games so far. Since Civ III sucked big balls, I wouldn't know. I'm way too busy with Rome BI to start playing Civ IV right now, though the box sitting on my desk looks very tempting.

No. All units were "better". Some civilizations have pretty useless unique units e.g. american F-15 in Civ3.Sir Sirius wrote:Has there ever been a unique unit that was worse then the regular unit it replaced in any of the four Civilization games?

The Jaguar Warrior was god.The Yosemite Bear wrote:even the jagaur warrior had it's uses. it was 1/1 with a move of 2. What did it do? Revealed the map really well early game, and more or less killed a shitload of barbarian units.

The English Man-O-War in Civ 3 was shit, raw shit. It was useless as by the time you had built a fleet of the ships, the enemy was going around in Ironclad's or Destroyers.
In civ 4 however, England now have Redcoats to replace Riflemen, which is a really useful UU. It was the turning point in my war with Arabia in my last game.
