Always a good bit. And some good stuff from all the canon novels is what I like, even good stuff to use against the rabid yaboos who screech about the odd EU material.

Right. After I convert all the old pages, I'm going to reread all the canon novelizations. I'm about half finished with ROTJ.Ghost Rider wrote:Always a good bit. The canon is good stuff, and while Stover is ...sparse on some things, he brought up interesting material on the opening battle over Coruscant for RoTS.Lord Poe wrote:Right. Well, it's a catchy title, the PDD. However, I don't think I've quite come to grips with it's intended use. Is this a database of raw quotes (plus misc annotations) to use against "yahoos," as GR puts it? Or is this a work in progress and I shouldn't pass judgement on it yet?

Actually, the passage doesn't say that the bridge would be destroyed. It indicates that the bridge would still be intact, merely "littered with corpses."The Falcon could ram the Avenger's hull and produce negligible damage at best. However, if it aimed for the unshielded forward bridge windows, (Like an A-Wing did in ROTJ) the bridge would be destroyed
Maybe I'm being too nitpicky though. . .

I think that "Powdered Donut Defense" refers to the fact that you don't have to do any research to come up with sources.Wyrm wrote:Well, it's a catchy title, the PDD. Okay, but what is it? What allows me to look at an argument and say, "Ah, he's using the Powdered Donut Defense!"?Ender wrote:I think it refers to the fact powdered domust were being eaten at the time when this tactic first showed up on ASVS

Yeah, I know, but I think it still kind of reflects the zero-effort approach to the deal: you don't have to do any work because it's all right there in front of you.Ender wrote:I think it refers to the fact powdered domust were being eaten at the time when this tactic first showed up on ASVSSpanky The Dolphin wrote:I think that "Powdered Donut Defense" refers to the fact that you don't have to do any research to come up with sources.Wyrm wrote:Well, it's a catchy title, the PDD. Hey, if you'd like to contribute your breakdown of a novel to the PDD, feel free!Vympel wrote:Don't duplicate stuff that some of us have already done though
I'll be adding more novels as I finish them. The use is simple: When a Trekkie says, "In Darksaber, the Super Star Destroyer BDZ'd Yavin, and just started a couple of fires!" You reply, No, you illiterate fuckwit, here what really happened: - then you use the quotes from the PDD. Its a novel resource with the actual quotes; not paraphrased, half-remembered pieces.Wyrm wrote:Well, it's a catchy title, the PDD. Thanks Lord Poe for putting that page online again! You wrote that:
Wouldn't it be a good idea to encourage people that have read the movie novelizations and/or EU novels and made a similar kind of analysis to contribute to your site (especially as the EU is very vast)?I'll be adding more novels as I finish them.
Well there's my RotJ novelization contribution on the main site, and the RotS contribution is here. In terms of RotS I probably missed some stuff though.Lord Poe wrote: Hey, if you'd like to contribute your breakdown of a novel to the PDD, feel free!

As always, its great to see more of the webpage back up.

Just added Darth Maul:Shadowhunter, Labyrinth Of Evil, Children Of The Jedi, The Crystal Star, and Darksaber. I'm currently working on two companion arguments to go with Darksaber.
Absolutely. Anyone who has done a PDD-like novel summary are encouraged to contribute!Mange the Swede wrote:Wouldn't it be a good idea to encourage people that have read the movie novelizations and/or EU novels and made a similar kind of analysis to contribute to your site (especially as the EU is very vast)?
Ah, ok. I'm going to do my own PDDs for the canon stuff, but and Expanded Universe PDDS (except for the Han Solo books and X-Wing series) would be welcome. ESPECIALLY New Jedi Order!Vympel wrote:Well there's my RotJ novelization contribution on the main site, and the RotS contribution is here. In terms of RotS I probably missed some stuff though.

Great stuff, as usual. Not just for vs. debates, it gives good insight.
Is this useful? The New Essential Chronology wrote:The Star Wars universe is a living thing. For almost 30 years, it has continued to grow and evolve, with new chapters constantly being added by writers, artists, game designers and other talented creators. While the six films form the most visible and important part of the Star Wars universe, the story is much bigger than six movies could ever contain.

Not to be too terribly nitpicky, but I think you meant flora. While the animals probably would be set afire also, you've focused on plants up to this point .Darksaber Analysis of Page 292 wrote:The forests were already burning before Daala arrived, thanks to the TIE fighters. However, even targeting structures from orbit, as per Daala's orders, the surrounding fauna around those structutres would of course be set aflame as well.

Because the Force butt-cushion was the most blatant Force wanking of all. If Luke wanted to make a castle with the Force, fine. Actually, I think "vegetation" fits a bit better; KJA alternates between calling Yavin 4's foliage a "forest" and "jungle"!
BTW, I added The Darksaber BDZ Argument to the PDD.
