I havent read the novel but to me watching the movies the shot looks exactly the same. Why do you believe Palps would say "Hey, you know mr Gunner scale down the shot, its only a Rebel Cruiser"

im not intending an Argument but is there Cannocal proof that the beam would go through. Maby its designed to just you know cause a reaction like a big boom when it hits a "solid" surface (i.e. a Planets Crust or Hull Plates)

Yes there is canonical evidence, they're called the Destruction of Alderaan, and the Laws of Physics. The Death Star can put out 1E38 Jules of energy behind that super-laser. A beam of that much power would most definitely go right through the Cruiser and make it disapear in a manner similar to the way those asteroids did in TESB. We the laser does not use some sort of chain reaction because the destruction of Alderaan makes it rather clear that the Death Star destroys shit with raw power, not some chain-reaction mumbo-jumbo as Darkstar would have us believe.

IIRC Darksaber describes a Rebel cruiser being caught up in the path of a DS prototype's superlaser. The ship is utterly annihilated, and the beam keeps on going.

We've seen Turbolaser VAPORIZE rock and still proceed on it's merry way, we've seen the AoTC beams(which are direct ancestors) do the same.

Use your brain and grasp beams don't stop and make things go BOOM unless there is a technobabblish reason attached, Star Wars has never once brought this up, thus making the assumption that gunner went "Full throttle!!!!!" is asinine to say the least.
