Have you watched all 6 movies back to back yet?

The Ewok movies are between ESB and RotJ. (Despie the fact that Wicket can't speak English in RotJ...)

I watched the PT back to back last sunday but had to fit the OT in here and there throughout the week. It was good watching in order and I think the breaks between the movies were actually a good thing. They helped to keep the feel that time had passed between each film.

Having done this now, as to the age old debate on how I would show the films to a new viewer, it would definitely be OT first. It's just not the same knowing before hand that the little green crazy guy is actually Yoda and that Vader is Luke's father. I'll say this though. The Emperor's line at the end of Jedi, 'Only now, at the end, do you understand.' really has more depth after six movies.

Good stuff. I should have clarified I didn't necessarily mean watching all the films one after another, all at once. But I am impressed that some of you have done it!

Haven't done so yet, but planning on doing so when I'm extremely bored on a dreary rainy day.

4,5,6,1,2,3 is still by FAR the best way to watch all the movies.

Well, I finally started watching from TPM on to ROTJ last night.

The more I see of TPM, the less I want to. It just looks real bad compared to the later ones, and I hate to say it.

One of my favorite bits with TPM is during the duel between Maul and Obi-Wan and Quigon...there is no speaking at all. Especially in the force-field "corridor" area where Obi-Wan and Quigon are separated. There could have been some really silly taunting dialogue from Maul directed at Quigon, but he just silently paces back and force waiting for the field to drop. The same goes for the 1v1 with him and Obi-Wan. No speaking, no, 'I killed your Master, puny one," He was just silent and telegraphed more of his contempt of Obi-Wan without speaking than any words spoken could have conveyed. That was one of the bright spots for me of TPM, which I hadn't looked at in awhile.

Now I'm halfway though AOTC. It's quite a visual shock to see the difference between the Yoda puppet in TPM compared to his CGI rendition in AOTC. I'd forgotten how weird he looked in Ep. 1!

Wagner's Ring Cycle, the only performance epic of comparable length and grandeur to Star Wars, is traditionally viewed over the course of four evenings, starting with Das Rheingold, then Die Walkure, then Siegfried, and finally Gotterdammerung. In the case of Star Wars, doing it in this manner would be unweildy, however, as soon as I find the time I plan on watching all six films over the course of a week, one per evening, starting probably on Tuesday or Wednesday. In this manner it will be possible to garner a full appreciation for the epic majesty of the work without burning oneself out in a "marathon" viewing.

I got as far as ESB and then I got side-tracked with work and getting ready for school. I haven't had enough of a break to finish. Bummer!

Probably could finish it over thanksgiving though, assuming I can bring my dvd's along!

My biggest shock was seeing the stark realism of the battered Stormtrooper suits from the gleaming and perfect fuzzy cgi of the ROTS troopers (which don't get me long, looked great and I accepted them as real, but then seeing the "real deal" in AHN made me forget how good they looked.. and then I got to see that crappy horrible CGI ragdoll riding a CG dewback, lol).

PS: Watching the Extended Editions of all the LOTR movies back to back would be a pretty big epic, at least comparable to the SW DVD marathon...

PPS: Are you skipping the credits? ;) I did, except I watched the TPM ones to the end to hear the Vader breathing. I don't think any of the other prequels had anything at the end...

PCPPS: I agree, that the best way to watch these is 4-6, 1-3. But every true geek should see how wrong (or right) Lucas is with the "chronological order marathon" at least once. ;)
fun/fantasy movies existed before the overrated Star Wars came out. What made it seem 'less dark' was the sheer goofy aspect of it: two robots modeled on Laurel & Hardy, and a smartass outlaw with bigfoot co-pilot and their hotrod pizza-shaped ship, and they were sucked aboard a giant Disco Ball. -adw1
Someone asked me yesterday if Dracula met Saruman and there was a fight, who would win. I just looked at this man. What an idiotic thing to say. I mean really, it was half-witted. - Christopher Lee

Can you imagine them re-doing ALL the CGI from parts IV, V and VI? I wouldn't put it past them. ;)

I seriously want to see a bigger battle at Hoth. Snowtroopers deploying from AT-ATs, better yet, AT-ATs being deployed from the ships above...

Could be worse I suppose, you could want a holographic picture of Qui Gon Jinn in Obi-Wan's hut, the ghost of Padme or Mace Windu appearing, Bail Organa looking up (with Jar Jar) as Alderaan is about to be destroyed, Palpatine disolving the Senate, a CG Rancor, or the insertion of the Imperial March into ANH. ;)

Seriously though, fixing the crappy CG they inserted in the first place would be fine by me (note the example of Jabba in ANH, or the firstlandspeeder fly over intro to the Mos Eisley scene).

That's what I want, is a partial rescore of ANH to insert some of the later motifs. The rest of it is fine as far as I'm concerned.

On topic, I haven't watched them all back-to-back yet, but a friend is putting together two days for them pretty soon...

Heresy!!

Anyway, Uts and I might do it over Thanksgiving Break. We still have yet to do a LotR marathon (and I actually have yet to watch the EE of RotK), though.

He looks longingly at Jar Jar, and says "I've always loved you."

The Gungan returns his look with surprise and it cuts away to the fireball...
