Klingons Ridged or Ridgeless

Which do you prefer, the Ridgeless TOS Klingons or the Ridged TMP and Beyond look? I prefer the Ridged ones. Ridgeless looked kind of like Black Vulcans or Romulans to me and would probably be the equivalent of what B&B are doing now in the ST Series adding ridges to new Aliens. Blame NBC for a shitty budget for TOS. Apparently the makeup artist for TOS (who did TMP makeup) wanted a Ridged look but did have the budget to implement in TMP. Well what do you think?

I like the look of the movie Klingons. Smart, savy and yet not stupid looking. TNG get way over done

I'm with you. The ridged Klingons from TMP looked the best. The ridged Klingons from TNG look stupid.

Would it be possible to use clay as cheap prosthetic makeup to make ridges? I mean, ok yeah it'd be a bitch to get out of your hair, but they couldve put stockings over their hair or something.

Clay is heavy and it does not move like the latex that is normally used. There is a reason why special effects technology has evolved to how it has. Because it works better than what else is possible today.

And I like the ridges like in the movies.

I prefer the movie ridges, especially the ones in Star Trek VI:THe Undiscovered Country.

Now, Klingons are nothing more than idiots with knives.

That is why The Undiscovered Country was the last, great thing that came from Trek. It's sad that the series has degraded from such an awesome movie into the Voyager and Enterprise drivel.

TUC was the second best movie, TWOK is the King of the Trek movies.

I agree; Star Trek 6 showed the Klingons at their very best. Showed a variety of personalities among Klingons, rather than "RAR, HONOR, RAR, VIOLENCE, RAR".

I like the ridged klingons but still the plain Klingons are best I mean cmon they are evil and were so tricky and smart.I still remeber Kang saying"well yes someday the Klingon Empire will fall and be beaten .So what nothing lasts forever" well its a paraphrase but you get the idea

Ridgeless. Let's face it, if you're going to have humanoid aliens, it's not believable that they're going to have exoskeletal protrusions of any sort; doubly so that said ridging would be so wildly variable that no mechanism of evolution could explain it. And in any case, it gets boring to see nothing but a bunch of people in heavy appliances strut around.

The original Klingons relied upon acting talent to make them convincing. And they had good actors under the makeup. They made you believe the Klingons were intelligent, evil manipulators who ran an interstellar empire instead of a pack of knife-wielding morons.

BTW, it was Kor, military governor of Organia, who exhibited such a wonderfully philosophical attitude in his statement, "Today, we conquer. If someday we are defeated... Well, war has its fortunes, good and bad". Kang was most famous for the line "We have no devil, Kirk. But we understand the habits of yours".

Fingerprints are random. The stripings on different animals are random.

I just preferred the look because it makes them look different. Hard to imagine that another race, and yes they are race because they can reproduce with humans pretty damn well, would look nearly like us despite being from another planet.

And prosthetics is not necessarily a hinderance to acting. Look at Dargo from Farscape. It only becomes a problem when it is used to make the character instead of acting and dialogue. But that is B&B's fault.

They were certainly the most dignified. This was shortly before the Klingons were dumbed down into 1-dimensional stereotypes that made them too easy for the fans to imitate at conventions. Their formulaic appearance and mannerisms became nothing more than the conceptual equivalent of a catchy advertising jingle.
