Post by TheMuffinKing »

Yep. More tank drawings/sketches.

This is a steam turbine prototype, analagous to the T-34 of WW2 fame.

The Admiral Knutzenov command tank. This beast rules the plains of the far east force.

Any suggestions (other than that SuX0rz!!11!!1one)?

Awesome stuff, been playing Generals lately?

For the last one, deleting/reducing/refining the subturret into the glacis plate more would make it flow more easily and not get in the way of the main gun.

My two cents.

I haven't played generals in ages... but I am loving the Wh40K Dow. I agree with the turret. I 'll shorten it so the main gun levels out just above the secondary turret. I may also add a stinger missile battery. Hmm thanks for the idea, I'm now motivated again!

Oops got me on that one. I'll lower the forward turret. Thanks, that would be embarrassing, although it would make a cool mortar...

I've upgraded the air defence and CIWS and shortened the frontal turret. Added also are some unit decals and a ladder, along with smoke dischargers and improved optics. Additional points for ERA have been added along with some "haulin' ass" mudflaps.

Good edit, thought I'm having a slight problem I hope you can clear up. Are you doing a Merkava style setup with the engine in the front for additional cre protection? The back looks the slightest bit cramped.

The engine is placed rear in a horizontal position "widthwise" to the tank. Thats for the diesel engine, The fusion plant model has a much smaller engine. Oh and the main turret is unmanned freeing up lots of room around its position.

So what's up with the CIWS/missile system you've got going on the turret there then...
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

Put the CIWS' ammo box on the other side of its turret to balance out the missile tubes.

Also, I'd recommend sloping all the armor (turrets, glacis, you name it) to between 45 degrees and 60 degrees to avoid enemy munitions enjoying a nice meaty 90degree (face-on) strike.

Also, the sponson guns could better served being replaced by a Browning HMG at the commander's cupola. Right now they're ballistic windows into the tank's machinery space.

That's a damn cramped turret (which is bad for putting lots of com gear in, integral to anything that's going to be in command) then, unless of course your tank is absuredly wide, which as it makes a bigger target, correspondingly bad for anything in command.

CWIS is fed from an internal magazine stored in the unmaned turret, next to the autoloader for the 150mm main gun. Also mounted in the turret are various sensory devices such as an infared viewer and 20xMag active/passive night/day viewer being among the more mundane. Glacis is sloped at a 60 degree angle for deflection of incoming rounds, further development is underway for sloping armor on the primary and secondary turrets in addition to ERA and an upgraded Shtora active defence system. Optional side sponsons come standard with 7.62mm LMG's but can be upgraded to have flamethrowers or 76mm autocannon. These sponsons operate independantly or can be slaved to the 12.7mm HMG mounted coaxially to the 150mm main gun. They are also operated remotely via camera, under the control of either the gunner or T/C. These sponsons are mounted wholely on the exterior via bolts and add a small degree of extra protection to the tank.

Oh yeah, eat THAT deus ex machina...

I agree, I was thinking about that last night and figure I could lengthen the hull just a wee bit. New turrets are in development.

So the sponsons don't have openings to the inside of the tank through the armor belt? Kewl!

Yep, most of the systems are remote control or automated. I designedthis for a crew of four. 1 driver, 2 gunners, and a Tank Commander. Being a command post this also has room for a command or infantry squad and a suite of C2 devices similar to those in the Stryker. Another update soon.

You have room for an infantry squad? :?: :?: ? How the heck do they fit in there?. Otherwise, good design.

A small squad, more like a fireteam really. Due to space limitations from comm gear and ammo there is realistically room for up to eight passengers plus equipment.

The Admiral Knutzenov MKIII upgrade.

Image

Upgrade includes lengthened hull and placement of a new gas turbine up front. Armor is ugraded from rolled steel to Chobham with further provisions for ERA and an embarkment ramp in the rear troop compartment. New smoke discharging mechanism embedded in exhaust system, chaff dischargers, and a second generation SATCOM interface added to improve survivability characteristics. Tracks upgraded with rubber road pads and hull mounted EM field generator added to front hull for mine destruction. ( I sincerly hope that last one isn't too treky, but I have seen these on their way in theater.)

Looks good. Where's the ammo for the sponson guns?

Oh, and btw, may want to make the turret slope all the way to the main body of the tank. Having a counter-slope like that does decrease the chance that rounds will penetrate, but it also means that hard rounds could be directed into the joint between turret and hull, potentially jamming it or penetrating. Both are bad, obviously.

But you definitely have the right idea going there... keep on with it...

Thanks. I agree with the turret though that would require a HUGE redesign and maybe elimination of the front turret. Besides doing that would make this look like an inflated M1... I'll look into it. The side sponson ammo is onboard the sponson, stowed behind the guns in an armored container. These are very easy to resupply, though not in a combat environment. The fact they are completely external (with the exception of the connectors, they're behind a panel) seriously limits their effectiveness and endurance. To compensate they carry 1500 rds of caseless ammo that comes supplied in prepacked magazines or loose belts. Sponsons are also optional and can be used as per mission requirements.

Troop compartment, indeed overall hull length increased by 1 meter to accomodate additional cargo/troops.

instead of "Iron Duke" you should have "Железный Герцог" (if its russian)

The tank looks cool, but isn't it kinda big.

id say the MKIII would take heavy losses in actual theater combat

I wish I remembered my Russian, a year and a half between Dushanbe and Bishkek and I still can't remember any.

Its big because its primary purpose is C&C combined with long range fire support. The size is also due to the need for a mobile command structure on the open plains. I should have specified that this is for a fictional universe.

Muffin, you are a god!

Hey, could you make a fancy pants drawing for me (well, maybe not too fancy, a doodle by your standards would still be magnificent)? Since I'm a shitty drawer, it'd be great if you could take my drawing and make something glorious and badass out of it.

Basically a nicer version of this super-Abrams of mine.

More info here.

Maybe a slightly larger body, a cooler missile launcher.

EDIT:

Yes, I am shameless. But I can be shameless AND eternally grateful! :D
