Whopeedoo! They have just proven that there were people named Goliath living in the aspproximate time period of the myth. No shit, Sherlock, do you think the Bible writers pulled the name out of their ass? They used a real name. What this has to do with the Biblical Goliath, I have no idea.

It's possible that the person who was writing the account heard about this Goliath of the Phillistine people, and decided it would make David look a lot greater if he defeated a 'mighty giant.'

None of the news stories about this address that the Killer of Goliath was Elhanan not David.

From the SAB:

Here it says that David killed Goliath, but 2 Sam.21:19 says that Elhanan killed him. (The words "the brother of" were inserted into the text of the King James version to avoid the obvious contradiction, which is shown by the italics used.)

You people are taking this too literally, the professor is saying that it's proof that there was [probably] a guy named Goliath among the philistines, and that it's not a complete stretch to say that there was a duel between David and a guy named Goliath, as opposed to having it (like a whole bunch of scholars have said) be either A) Complete propaganda/fiction or B) A borrowed mythological incident either from earlier in Israeli history which was later edited out or from another culture.

It's that simple, what the fundies say in regard to this is a complete different set of clap-trap.

The problem is not us, or at least me, but the way it has been presented on TV. I first caught this flicking by FOXNews where it effectively became inscrpition proves, David Killed Goliath. They said the ostrica was in a house attributed to Goliath. I poked around the website for the dig & a little on google & I could fnd nothing that states there was a house attributed to Goliath, besides that the city itself was attributed to be his home town. But that's the indepth kind of analysis you get from the FOX propaganda network.

Oh, & I found some fundie websites on Google that also interpret the ostrica to mean that the story of David & Goliath must be true, so haha skeptics repent beause Jesus is your saviors, etc, etc, etc.
