I bet you have all the crap versions of Windows, too (ie, anything past 98, IMO)

Ahem. Win2K can run for at least eighty days without BSODing. Ever get that kind of uptime out of a Win98 box? Didn't think so.

No, it does not. Win98 is terribly unstable compared to Win2k.

Insanley unstable, I've got the triad on my computer, Win98, Win2k and now REDHAT(*Gasp!) Linux

Why RedHat instead of Mandrake? I wanted to see the diffrences between the two and while in the library found a How-To Book(Useless) Redhat Book with 3 CD's chocked full of Linux goodness(Useful)

Needless to say off I ran, backed up orgional Linux instal then cleared it out to make room for RedHat(I have little space left for linux thanks to the tons of Warz/Porn/Mp3s that clutter my harddrive)

Windows XP professional is far and away more stable than any Mac I've ever seen.

I will conceed that my new iMac does run rather slow at times (800 gig), but I have yet to see it crash. This windows 2k crashes every chance it gets, which is basically every minute of every day (I'm a comp-a-holic)

Then you have something wrong with the hardware or a corrupt OS. My machines at work and home do not hang up that much.

You could also have an application that just isnt happy with our computer ( the windows one ).

Installing badly written apps will often make Win2k crash. Also, bad or flaky RAM has been implicated in an astounding number of crashes.

Basically, if your machine locks up randomly, suspect your RAM. Go get Goldmemory tester and run it on your machine. If your machine crashes with a bluescreen, suspect your drivers. Get newer drivers or worry that you've chosen the wrong hardware combo. And if your machine gets REALLY slow, and barely responds or you have to continually ctrl-alt-del and log out in order to save it, then suspect your software.

Of course, if you've been installing a lot of software as administrator and it's been mucking around with your windows system directory by intalling and overwriting DLL's (which most of the goddamned software does nowadays), then it will be almost impossible to figure out where the problem is, and the software could cause more damage than normal. But in most cases, the above method works.
