Also another thing to consider, Bail probably went for Obi Wan because Palpatine dissolved the Senate. While it happened after Leia was put on her mission, the signs were more then obvious that he had pulled away from the Senate and fully consolidated his power base.

One of the reasons of why I'm unsure of the exact extent of Leia's mission? Obviously, Obi Wan was one of the 'main' objectives of why she was out and about in the Big 'T'.

The radio drama goes a bit into this. I'm going by memory, but I believe her "offical" mission was to deliver medical supplies to Taprow as a cover to recieve the data transmissions of the Death Star plans. The empire had a pretty strong presence on the planet so the had to be sneaky about it, but the imperial caught wind of what they where doing. They jumped to Tattooine to get Ben thinking they shaked off the Imps, but as soon as the get out of hyperspace, the Imps drop out right behind them, thus the opening of ANH.
