Out of curiousity, what is involved in making a game like this? Has RPG Maker 2003/XP been considered for potential sequels?
Also, is it possible (and hopefully easy) to make multithreaded conversations in the system?

You mean the fact that once you trigger the fleet attack at Afts you can't leave until you beat Elizar?Dooey Jo wrote: You should remember that the next time you make a game; never ever have a situation where a choice the player makes forces him to start over.
That's just the breaks. Seriously, I expected players to be fully prepared when they went into those levels, and that includes backup saves - which aren't exactly difficult to make! - items, a balanced party, and good gear. For instance, has it occurred to anyone that Flame Armor - available at ASVS - would work well against the Elite Fiver Marines' Flame spells?
Oh, sorry Tev, I was just recalling that Teamhair is supposed to be a Bard or Bard-like or something. White Mage it is.

No, that one is acceptable (since it's a boss and all), but I couldn't even leave the ship until I had activated the signal, and the Marines down there made me realise that the party which seemed to work well on other enemies was not so good after all. But then it was already too late as I had saved in my main save file...Steve wrote:You mean the fact that once you trigger the fleet attack at Afts you can't leave until you beat Elizar?Dooey Jo wrote: You should remember that the next time you make a game; never ever have a situation where a choice the player makes forces him to start over.
Yes, but fully prepared for what? You're not telling the players that there's going to be lots of deadly enemies that uses fire attacks, so when they realise that that is the case, I think they should be able to go back and regroup. I mean sure, backup saves is one way to go, but it's hard to know exactly when one should make a backup. Since both the number of slots and the places where saving was enabled was limited I tried to save as much as possible in as few slots as possible...That's just the breaks. I realise, of course, that an experienced CRPG player usually wouldn't make the mistake I did, but well... not everyone is an experienced CRPG player. Therefore we make stupid mistakes. Don't punish us more than necessary

In the game I met Nitram on Teamhair was a bard: a Celtic singer who used songs to focus and cast her spells.Steve wrote: Oh, sorry Tev, I was just recalling that Teamhair is supposed to be a Bard or Bard-like or something. White Mage it is.
But Bards in FF have a bad rep as being nearly totally useless outside of special circumstances, while a WhiteMage or a Summoner are the MUST HAVE characters

One of the things that really bugs me is that there is no way to know which town is which. No one to say "Welcome to X".

I finally beat it.
Spoilerized
I guess I apparently escaped from Tigerclaws's dungeon all on my lonesome, because I was still bugging out down there during the rescue of Misty et al. (I went and checked on myself, natch) and then I showed up in ASVS just in time to complain about the huge fires. I hope I get to be a player character instead of a running gag next time

Actually, you're back in ASVS after Tigerclaws is beaten. Players can get O'Farrell's Ultimate Tech from you (unlike other techs, it's not an MP-costing tech but an item that only O'Farrell can use, and it's a limitless use item).

I finished it this afternoon, after thoroughly enjoying the entire thing.
Did you have a particular SBer in mind as the victim of my misguided targeting?
I thought I'd supply my thoughts and a couple of bug reports. Don't take the criticisms too harshly, as they only bother me because of the overall awesomness of the rest of the game.
My major concern with balance is that firestorm always does more damage than every other entry in the *storm series of spells. Casting firestorm averaged around 400-500 damage while the other storms rarely broke 350. This was true for almost every opponent.
For the spoiler stuff:
Tents are too powerful. Once your income reaches the point that each battle produces more than 350 gold you can simply burn a tent after every battle. This makes your MP effectively unlimited as you'll rarely run out of MP in all but a couple of the boss fights. Because of tents, I used only 2 of the megalixirs. One in the guardian demon fight during the escape from b5tech, and one when Schala got killed during an AOE happy boss fight.
I am _really_ glad that you provided weapons that were clearly better than the sword of truth.
Misty's Minerva strike outshines every other spell, since for 75 MP, you get a 500-700 damage area of effect attack that also reduces defense by as much as Will Breaker or Nulbarrier _and_ has the possibility of shocking those annoying Fiver Hogs.
Kerkhof's katana storm is similarly powerful. The most powerful party is probably Silas, Schala, Kerkhof and Misty. Give Silas firestorm so that he has some AOE damage capability. This party will kill the three fiver hog groups in two turns, and the chimaera + two fiver hog groups in three or four turns. This party also excels at boss killing, because the combination of defense breaker, will breaker, and minerva strike makes every second physical attack from all four characters a critical hit for 999 damage.
The Flame of Midas only does about 100 more damage than the Eclipse Thread, yet costs more than twice as much MP.
The item shop in Zeon is buggy. Scrolling past the world map causes a crash to desktop.
If you really want to make the game harder, you might want to remove the MP halving items.

This is going to be soooo sweet. I took being cut from the last game a little hard. First hit the bottle, then these little pills. I'd hit rock bottom. I've just been stammering through all these years, crawling my way out of one toilet and into the bottom of something that smelled like diesel fuel, raw booze and broken dreams. But all that's changed now, at long last I know where I belong. Today my life starts a new, no more crack for Spyder, this time he gets it right! All I know is that everything is going to be ok from now on, I can't wait to see what part I got in this game!
