After Mace Windu puts Palpatine on his ass, he says "You are under arrest, my lord." He adds a sarcastic little sneer to it, but the fact remains that Palpatine had yet to ever utter the word "empire" at that point. Between that and the way the clones address him later, I think "my lord" is just the way the Chancellor is supposed to be addressed.
If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! All votes for me! Wheeee!" -- Lagmonster

Didn't many commanders just recieve the order over their headsets, without the hologram at all?

So it seems. Persumably, Palpatine just sent holograms to the commanders serving under the most significant Jedi, and only those among them who were actually in a position to look at a hologram (like those at a forward command post, or a fighter cockpit.) Sending a holo to Gree or the Galactic Marines wouldn't have been feazible, since they were either actively engaged in combat, or very close to Jedi.

FSTargetDrone wrote:Sorry if this has been discussed, (a search is giving me too many results to sort through) but when Palpatine gives the order to deep-66 the Jedi, there seems to be the slightest pause from Cody before he confirms it.

Clearly Cody has some past interaction with Kenobi, and knows him well enough for some friendly banter: "When have I ever let you down?"

Is this addressed in the novelization? Cody doesn't seem to have any particular qualms about gunning down his recent ally, and he quickly gives the order to fire. But the pause is interesting (unless I am reading too much into it!).
He was probably thinking about that Beef 'n' Cheese Burrito he was going to have for lunch.

Alternately, he was thinking "Muhahaha!!" (smiling under his helmet) like any good [evil] henchman.

I guess that code word just opens up a file that lets them know he's Sideous and the cat is out of the bag. A subtle mind trick? I guess it's sort of like how Yoda and Obi-Wan refer to Palpatine as "The Emperor" even though they weren't present for the announcement of the Empire to the Senate...

And Obi-wan and Yoda couldn't have just turned on CNN while puttin' their heels up in some little room in the Tantive? :P

Palpatine tells Anakin to 'go and bring peace to their Empire' in the Holovid that Obi-Wan watches. They only call him 'Emperor' after that.

Speaking of which, it is sort of funny how Obi-Wan switches off the video and then complains to Yoda that he doesn't know where Anakin has gone...

Now I can't watch that scene without thinking, WATCH THE REST OF THE VIDEO YOU IDIOT, MAYBE YOU'LL FIND OUT!

The thing is that Padme had to be on Mustafar and die. Its a clever little plot device that Georgie boy Lucas put in

Also the fact that, he really doesn't want to know. And how do we know that Mustafar was mentioned in that conversation Obi-Wan saw? I'm pretty sure it's not the same one that we see in the chancellor's office. (Left my Episode III at home, D'OH!)

Well but Yoda wanted him to kill Anakin. So he could have sarcastically told Obi-Wan to check the video, rather than "searching his feelings."

Nitpick: Padme didn't die on Mustafar.

Palpatine just tells Anakn to "go and bring peace to the Empire" in that recording. He doesn't say where. Why would he say, immediately after Kenobi switches it off, "And it's Mustafar, in case you've forgotten. You're going to MUSTAFAR to bring peace to the Empire."

Hell the novel goes into more detail, and not once does Palpatine go "And remember Grievious put them on Mustafar!"

But does Kurgan use his last retarded braincell to come to a logical conclusion?

I agree that only commanders attached to important Jedi got personal orders holographically.. I think all the holographic transmissions were sent to Clone Commanders attached to Jedi Council members, right?
Not all the Council members' clones got holographic transmissions tho..

Regarding the whole Mustafar thingy, I love it when someone tries to make some smart-ass point, but bases it on a fallacious assumption :D

I shouldn't have to explain the sense in viewing the security recordings in more detail in order to obtain information. And we shouldn't have to read the novel in order for the movie itself to make any sense. That's just lazy direction.

Would Ghost Rider's vastly superior intellect assert that the few seconds Obi-Wan looked at was the entire security recording? He shuts the thing off due to emotional distress and immediately asks a question about something that may have been on the tape!

As any member of this board knows, people tend to get extremely annoyed when a someone posts a question that has been "answered elsewhere" or demands they "use the search" or read the book before asking stupid questions. Had Obi-Wan been a member of this forum he'd have gotten a similar response.

Hell, if I had been Obi-Wan I'd have gritted my teeth and turned the recording back on to see what other clues I could find. Even barring that, don't Jedi have homing signals? I suppose Anakin could have removed his to avoid being tracked, but they don't even mention that as a possibility. Instead it's just "search your feelings" and he lets Padme lead him to Anakin. Can you say "contrived plot device"? ;)

The scene just makes Obi-Wan out to be somewhat dense. He's distraught, possibly not thinking clearly. I'd expect Yoda to keep a clearer head, but maybe not!

Remember that he and Yoda probably couldn't hang around the Temple to assess the video recordings for evidence. There were 20 or so dead Clonetroopers outside and they were probably working on borrowed time as it was.
