Ehh...if it's the same kind of high noise that's emitted by TVs and such, they really wouldn't help.

I wonder what the penetration of the sound is? Pretty easy way to impose a curfew over a large area might be to blast this stuff all over a city, if it doesn't get through the walls and windows it could literally make going outside a nightmare. Ohh the possibilities

Okay, that's officially taking a good idea and taking it too far.

In the US, this could get into problems w/ ADA compliance if it affects seeing eye dogs.

At the least they'll have to make it some thing that is not always on, probably w/ an automatic 15-30 minute automatic shutoff.

Would it be possible to make it play very high pitched classical music? That'd combine two forms of repellent. And make it shatter glass too. Just in case they sill hang around, blow the windows out at them.

According to Starbound, it's a problem solvable with enough combat drugs to turn you into the Incredible Hulk.

Low frequency waves travel better through mediums than high frequencies. So I can't imagine this souund getting very far.

My concern are the potential customers that would be lost to this device, such as parents with kids or younger customers who would have been interested, but were driven away by the sound. Since it doesn't just hit kids 13-18 yro. It hits near everybody under 20.

You would probably hear it. I am also 24 yet would likely be immune since I can recall not hearing a high-pitched noise that bothered my undergrad physics workshop students. Already over the hill, I suppose. :(

I can hear the whine of the TVs in our house when they're on a channel that doesn't have any audio input. There's a very distinct high-pitched sound that's very annoying, barely audible, yet you can still hear it.

Same with me. I still want one though, preferably a uni-directional one. I'm not very knoweldgable about uni-direction speakers, so I don't know if that's feasible... *shrug*

I wonder if you could make cool music that can only be heard by young people.

all you have to do is wear a device that emits an inverted wave to get the destructive interference thing. Doesn't even have to be perfect, it could just cancel out most of the sound leaving a low, tolerable volume.

I can easily hear distinct variations in the whine of a TV, like when the screen goes from dark to bright, the whine changes. I imagine I would hate such a device. On the other hand, if I wanted to rob a store, I don't think some damn noise would stop me.

Also, doesn't the type of kids this device is targeted at, usually listen to way too loud music, which tends to fuck up the hearing, especially in the high-pitch range?
