I was under the impression that thread necromancy depended on the relative activity level of the forum?
Believing there's no God stops me from being solipsistic. I can read ideas from all different people from all different cultures. Without God, we can agree on reality, and I can keep learning where I'm wrong. We can all keep adjusting, so we can really communicate. I don't travel in circles where people say, "I have faith, I believe this in my heart and nothing you can say or do can shake my faith." That's just a long-winded religious way to say, "shut up," or another two words that the FCC likes less. But all obscenity is less insulting than, "How I was brought up and my imaginary friend means more to me than anything you can ever say or do." So, believing there is no God lets me be proven wrong and that's always fun. It means I'm learning something.
Awesome, just freakin' awesome. I now have to shake Penn's hand if I ever see him in person. I wonder what Teller's views are on the subject?

Loved that.

Of course NPR has to backpedal at the end by having next weeks "I Believe" segment from a guy who says "I have found a belief in God" to counter Jillette's essay and avoid being connected to any sort of atheist message (or as Mr. Jillette put it: beyond atheist :D ).

Some people frown upon thread necromancy, but I support it in the case of well-considered and content laden posts such as this. Good show.

Any who, I recomend 'Bullshit'. Its up there amongst Mythbusters.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Didn't they already have an "I believe in God" segment, from William F. Buckley? I remember cracking up when I heard him say that he believes in God because "it is intellectually easier".

Teller is also an atheist, and his views are pretty similar. He just doesn't talk about it as much, for obvious reasons.

One guest speaker for one of my classes was the producer of a four part thing with Penn and Teller on the history of magic.

Little known fact I walked away with, while in China they booked them into a brothel. Apparently it was the nicest hotel they could find...
