Games you just can't stand......

Post by Darksider »

There are all different types of games out there, some you might like, some you may not care for.

But are there any games out there that you just plain hate?

Please list games that you deeply dispise only, not games you dislike slightly or don't care for.

I suppose i'll go first

Star Wars: Force Commander: This needs no explanation. quite possibly the WORST Star Wars game ever made.

Final Fantasy X-2: I just outright hated the game. The limited choice of characters, the differing style of gameplay, the atrocious storyline. And to top it off, I had the second crappy J-pop song from the game stuck in my head for a month straight. I almost went crazy. I just hate this game.
And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks

Brothers in Arms. An entire clip can be emptied into an enemy at point blank (less than two meters) without a single hit. Then, the enemy will turn around, aim, and kill you with a single shot.

Uhm, what's wrong with warcraft 3?

I dislike CS myself. I've really never been able to come to grips with how they fire, in Day of Defeat I can control my guns, they're innacurate, but powerful. If you know how to handle your gun, you can be very deadly with it, even in circumstances where you wouldn't ordinarily use said gun. CS is a completely different animal. The guns have a mind of their own, I swear. The guns are automatic, but they might as well not be, considering that after 2 or three shots the bullets start going all over the place. The guns in basically every other game I understand, learn, and come to terms with, but those guns from CS still elude me. I've grown to loathe the as a result.

I can't think of any other game which I really 'dislike' otherwise. In fact, I'll find myself playing a little bit of CS now and again, it's not that terrible, I suppose I just dislike the weapons.

MOO3. It was downright unplayable. With trillions of pointless, overly detailed bits that sap the fun right out of it. Have fun not getting in a battle for at least six hours.

I haven't played any games in a while, but I always hated everything to do with "Final Fantasy." Maybe that's because it's sort of a hybrid between two other things I can't stand; fantasy and manga.

ninja gaiden xbox version - visually beautiful game, and we were overdue for a new Ninja Gaiden game, but no camera control, and fucking hard bosses, fuck you!

Devil May Cry 3 - GAH! Why does it have to be so hard! Why did we only get the Japanese Impossible mode with no chance to tune the difficulty down! why why why why why!

Star Wars: Deep Space Nine Dominion Wars - This is how a game about the Dominion War isn't made!

Das Boot the most realistic WWII sub simulator, which btw was either too intense or increadably booring, mostly the later, as the most you could compress time was 4 times real time and have you ever tried doing a sub marine patrol in real time?

King Kong DS. I got to play it for four days last week. Let's see...

* The most common way I died was falling out of the game world.
* The textures were blocky and horrible.
* You could see cracks in the game world everywhere
* Terrible hit detection, you can miss with a spear by a mile and they still die, but you can't actually tell if you're hurting them when you point a machine gun and start shooting because they don't react.
* No visible weapons fire, or effects; guns and spears literally go right through walls.
* When playing as King Kong, none of the enemies actually hurt you except for the T-Rex, and you can't actually die unless you LET the T-Rex kill you. Thus, no difficulty.
* The only good part of the game is that it actually has puzzles, but you repeat the same puzzles over and over.

The only boss-enemies are the raptor and the giant crab, but you fight the same bosses over and over, sometimes multiple times in a level. As IGN puts it:
. The only creature that ever caused me problems was the giant super-crab, but aiming wasn't the problem there. The thing just absorbed shots without reacting much (the trick seems to be to shoot him in his ... let's call it a face, until he rears up and lets you flip him over so you can shoot him some more. We're not 100% sure that it's the face where he can be hurt, but we've unloaded every round we had everywhere else on his body and he didn't die, so we tried the face and something seemed sort of to happen.)
IGN's review puts it nicely.

I'll second CS. Can't stand that game. Ah, let's .... rush! Oh, new map! The strategy is .... rush! Oops, let's work together now and .... rush! Yay, so much fun. So much fun that I'd rather charge fortified enemy positions with a handgrenade.

Hmm, sports games in general bore the shit out of me. I don't care for sports in general, so games based on them aren't gonna be real entertaining for me.

Regarding CS, thats what happens when you play in public severs ;) Playing in a good server gives you good teamwork results.

Anything FPS, because they make me motionsick. I hate them because they look so fun, but I just can't play them without wanting to throw up.

And MoO3. That game would have been brilliant, if it didn't suck so much.
Final Fantasy X-2: I just outright hated the game. The limited choice of characters, the differing style of gameplay, the atrocious storyline. And to top it off, I had the second crappy J-pop song from the game stuck in my head for a month straight. I almost went crazy. I just hate this game.
Final Fantasy Charlies Angels isn't that bad. I found that the trick was to just turn my brain off whenever I went anywhere near it.

Gah, I forgot about the travesty of FFX-2. I loved FFX. I have a good 600+ hours in it over all my various games. I thought I'd dig FFX-2. Then I rented it and the completely different combat system, awkward style system and utter lack of any clear path put me off it. Seriously, I loved the turn-based combat system, which gave me time to think, or take a leak. FFX-2's was just twitch based, and drove me insane.

I know that, and I know my other reasons are largely arbitrary and probably don't make much sense, but suffice it to say I have a fair bit of personal hatred for that game in general.

I hate the Everquest style of MMORPG with a passion. That includes WoW and all the other clones.

Generic sports games. It's the most unimaginative genre ever created and if there's one type of games that I hate, it's that one. I even hate it more than the horrible generic FPS and generic RPG. And I can understand why EA release the same games every year under (very slightly) different names; they want money. What I don't understand is why the fuck the same people keep buying those games every year.

Also, I don't like racing "simulations". Like the above genre, they're all the same to me. Give me something different, damnit. Put lasers on the cars or whatever, not just more shaders. There was this one racing game where the cars could flip over and still drive (they had large wheels) and you could crash into buildings and shoot missiles at them and the buildings would actually collapse. That was a fun game. By todays standards it looks pretty bad, I guess, but I don't give a shit because the game is fun regardless. What if they could use all that extra processing power of todays computers to make, for instance, huge, nearly completely destructible levels or courses? Or be able to lay out oil-slicks and mines like you could in GTA2?

"But Dooey", someone says, "then it wouldn't be a racing sim any more lolz"
All the better, I say. Todays racing sims aren't sims anyway, they're horribly unrealistic. So instead of trying to concentrate on making the games seem realistic, they should concentrate on making them fun. More and shinier cars and courses isn't fun for that long. I don't think so, anyway. And for fucks sake, stop with the cheating AI!!

Force Commander is without a doubt one of the worst designed games ever.

One game that always annoyed me is the numerous Tomb Raider games, i never saw the point of them.

Master of Orion 3 was the biggest pile of steaming horseshit I have ever paid money to play. It stands alone as the only game I've ever purchased new and then traded back in.

I also thought that Hitman 2 was an appalling sequel. The game went from being extremely difficult and from it being best to avoid open firefights to being a bloody walkover. Boring. The only thing I'd want from Hitman 2 in the original would be the mid-mission saves which might perhaps have helped me not go bald prematurely from the stress of the damn game.

The Halo games. I hate all FPS games (except, for reasons I don't understand, Goldeneye, the good one), but unlike all the other FPS games out there, I am frequently dragged into playing Halo because everybody else loves it. Then I get bitched at because I'm so terrible that whatever team I'm on always loses without fail. Not fun.
