Replaced motherboard, help please

Post by Natorgator »

So I just replaced my motherboard a little while ago, got everything hooked up. When I power it on, I get the single short beep (the all OK post code) and the system seems like it's starting normally. I'm trying to load safe mode so I can reinstall drivers but the system reboots before it gets there, every fucking time.

What could I be doing wrong? Do I have a bad power supply or what? :? This is fucking driving me crazy.

I had a similar problem. Ended up rebooting windows anyway, but there is a possibility of avoiding that. Read:

Fuck, I think you're right. I figured it would start fine, but I guess it sorta makes sense now that it doesn't.

Now I need to get my hands on a copy of XP...

Doh, I wish I'd known that before I installed this thing.

No matter what, you'll want to reinstall windows. Windows, in all it's ineptitude, does not play well with a replaced motherboard (some components are only selected and installed at install time, and cannot be replaced). If you want a stable system (err. as stable as windows can get), install a fresh copy.

Actualy there are ways to prepare Windows for a motherboard replacement, however:

1) It's too late now
2) A clean install is better

Generally I consider a reinstall to be a good thing after a major hardware change, regardless of OS.
