Yeah, I just rewatched that scene, and you're right.
The crime bill passed by the senate would reinstate the Federal death penalty for certain violent crimes: assasinating the president, hyjacking an airliner, and murdering a government poultry inspector

..in a hilarious way.

Think up a caption and it'd make for a great YTMND.

ANH: the asteroid field of the former Alderaan is made of translucent asteroids. It's very hard to catch unless you go frame-by-frame, but the BG stars shine through the surface of the asteroids instead of being occluded by them. They hadn't corrected it for the DVD version.

For those of you who have the original version of Jedi: Right after Lando says "Fighters coming in!" there's a space shot of the Falcon swooping away from the DS2 with lots of TIEs zipping by. At just about the end of the shot, for just a brief moment, you can see two TIEs through the Falcon's bulk. Obviously, the matte wasn't quite complete.

EDIT: To round out this post, a blooper from TESB -- At one point in the fight scene between Luke and Vader, the lightsabers are forced to cut through the same section of pipe in two places. But when the sparks are over, the pipe is only severed in ONE place (and the cut section, which there should logically be, should've dropped away). Oops.

Not me! I'm completely irrational!
Kurgan wrote: My reply would be we don't see any shield impacts or vaporizations in the AOTC scene (except maybe that giant explosion from the missile, which we can't really make out what's going on inside it because it's so big). When we have a turbolaser blast an asteroid so apparently nothing is left, that's it getting "vaporized." (or turned into barely visible dust, whatever) Likewise shield impacts seem to produce this same (or similar) effect. But weaker weapons like those used by Jango's ship that merely shatter asteroids seem plausible enough.
Absolutely. No question.
Kurgan wrote: I think you're saying it's more along the lines of the fact that different people worked on one movie (ESB) vs. the other (AOTC). Sort of like how the Lightsabers in each of the movies are slightly different from each other, and yet they're often supposed to be the same model and at the very least, same physical concepts.

Yes, I was thinking technical error because they made this object explode as if it were a "laser blast" when in fact it was just another rock. I'm not the first one to point this out, either. ;)

Edit: Actually, it seems to behave more like a TIE "bomb" now that I think about it. But there doesn't seem to be any reason why a bomb would be head of the chase (and no TIE Bombers in sight).
I actually hadn't thought of it being a question of different people working on the various effects, but you are right on with that.

Don't forget, Tie Bombers' bombs glow when "dropped" I think, right? Maybe that first tiny object was a dud! ;)

You know, as an aside, while the AOTC asteriod chase may be more spectacular-looking (and I do enjoy it), I still find ESB's asteroid scene more real-looking. I think there's just a bit too much of the CGI "sheen" or whatever it is, but I like ESB's 'stroids better.

fun/fantasy movies existed before the overrated Star Wars came out. What made it seem 'less dark' was the sheer goofy aspect of it: two robots modeled on Laurel & Hardy, and a smartass outlaw with bigfoot co-pilot and their hotrod pizza-shaped ship, and they were sucked aboard a giant Disco Ball. -adw1
