I dont know about Italy, but all books in the UK are exepmt from tax...movies and so on I'm not sure.

If anything deserves a 20% tax, it's shit like Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor.

Books and movies are less taxed than other things in order to promote "culture", AFAIK.

If that's the case, then we're right back to porn being singled out. It's certainly not as if any other kinds of movies are being vetted for cultural significance and getting slapped with extra taxes if they fail.

You think that's oppressive? You ain't seen nothing yet, as they say... Here in Finland, books, medicine and foodstuffs have a VAT of 8%, some specialized stuff have 17% and everything else has a 22% VAT slapped on.

Single tax, there are no municipal or district specific ones, it all goes to the central government.
