Proposed STGOD Setting.

Post by SirNitram »

Since the ASVS-STGOD 'verse is crowded, overflowing, and overdone for now, I came up with this. It's an oral history told by my probable nation; don't mind the primitive nature and mysticism. As an oral tradition, it's of sketchy veracity.

Heed me, young explorers, for I am the once great explorer Iron Phoenix, who opened the Northeast Passage and found the great cache at Drasib. I will tell you how the universe came to be the way it is.

In the beginning was the Age Of Stone. All beings lived on their worlds of stone, the Cradles, where they came to be. The worlds nutured them, let them grow fat and happy like a prosperous village's children. They fought, yes, but beings always fight. It is our way. The Cradles let them grow stronger, climbing their own paths to the stars.

Next, came the Age of Iron, for the beings of the stars had found the ways of metal and science, and strode out into the stars on vast, cold ships. So brave were they! Enduring generations asleep for a chance at a new Cradle. Into the night billions journeyed, and new worlds were settled, new species found as Cradles sent their journeyers to the same stars. It was a cold, dark time, like the void itself. No faster-than-light technology meant no words home or to other colonies. Each world was it's own, and they ecked out lives as best they could.

When the barrier of Light was finally breached, it ushered in a new Age as each star was interconnected. Trade of goods, money, and knowledge went from a few droplets to a roaring ocean. Prosperity again dominated, and new worlds were founded, new species found. Some new species were even made, such were the wonders of the Age of Silver, the magics the old ones had.

Yet, did I not say it is the nature of all beings to war? I did. Remember that, explorers, for you will find battles out there. Silver could not last forever. We do not know who began the great war, but does it matter? The nations then are gone, destroyed in their own fires. The only links one could make now are those of species, and who is so arrogant as to do that? The Age of Steel was one which destroyed, not created. The universe became cold and dark for a long time.

Now? We do not know this Age's name yet. The wise men after us will decide such. But we see the signs. Other nations crawl from the rubble to set forth again. There are no empires as there once were, but in a year, ten years, a hundred years? No sage is that wise.

Now, observe, while I show you how to speak to your craft, so they will carry you across the void..

Sounds fairly decent. Allows plenty of exposition in each nations background, while providing a bit of structure to it.

That was the goal. The ASVS-STGOD 'verse had a truly rich and detailed history, and virtually none of the players outside of the Old Guard tried to learn it/play it. Which was an endless source of annoyance for those of us who did know the history. Now we just start with a slate where we can make our own histories under a basic structure.

This is good, I already have my own idea for a nation.

I have some interest. But I'm not sure if I'll join. I don't want to join and then end up not having time or lose interest and possibly fuck up the game. So I could be filed under a 'maybe' at the moment.

Your opening is quite mythically enticing.

I've looked at these before, but always been a bit put off with the sheer size of the "Orders of Battle" as well as having to "break in" in the midst of something that had been going on for some time and has become very complex. If I were to join at the beginning, it would at least alleviate the latter difficulty.

I'm definitely interested. Will there be some technological and/or magical "ground rules" or are we all going to come up with a totally unique way of doing the same thing like in previous STGODs I've seen?

I agree; especially since once a year I am torn from the world of technology and dumped in the wilderness for a month or so.

Well... I have an idea for my nation...

Oh, what are we going to call this iteration? 2k6?

Maybe it should be something more interesting like "The Tale of Ages" or "The Unnamed Age" or something.

I've always been interested in STGODs but never managed to read the histories and such. I don't really know how to make a OoB (Something about points or something?), for instance.

File me under tentative maybe.

I think "The New Age" or one of the ones above would work for a name.

I'm always looking to write more, so if this gets going, I have an idea for a nation. I think this idea is actually pretty cool, but, like the others have said, I didn't have the time or inclination to read through dozens of pages to get background on a universe I would want to break into. Count me in.

Hmmm, I've got a nation sketched out already, but I'm not sure I can do this and the Librium Arcanum STGOD (I was going to use this nation over there... but I'm not sure now... hmm) at the same time.

I'll get back to you guys.

I'm toying with an idea for a nation myself. Sounds interesting so far.

I would be interested but I would not be able to post much in January because of my exams (a bit like what happened last time a join a STGOD). But I would defiantly like to try, if possible I will go a very small empire so my diving in and out dose not ruin the entire game.

I might try and do something with the
Some new species were even made,
line for my empire but that might be a little ambitious.

Sounds pretty cool. I'll have to wait till I know more about it all before I inflict myself upon this thing, though.

As an aside, what is an STGOD?

Other than my lack of experience, I would be interested in participating if someone would be willing to lay out the ground rules and how this goes down. I've skimmed through a couple STGODs in the past here, and found them fascinating, but they've always seemed so intimidating and my lack of knowledge about how they run has kept me from attempting to participate.

Questions: :)
1: Mods? (I wouldn't say no to modship myself :P *g*)
2: When do we start working in earnest on the OOBs? Do we need to work more on the point-buy system for nations?
3: General technology level?

I, as before, am fine with being a mod. General tech level, eh, I've no clue. I've worked up something that'll work regardless of such. Probably wind up being between Trek and Wars, the usual spot.

I'd like to help out too. Mainly with auditing and making sure everyone knows what's going on with the new system. If it's ok with you Nitram I'd also like to work together to write some lore for this new world.

There's really nothing to it. It's basically a 4x space strategy game without the software. You write a background for your empire, declare your forces (there will be a few guidelines to follow here) then write about your forces blowing stuff up and you're away.

Then I'd like to join,
just based on the exposition, I understyand that the setting will lean towards fantasy and only one world? :?:
