Best Original Videogame StarWars ship.

Post by Crossroads Inc. »

Now, we all know there have been many games made of StarWars over the years. And while they feature many ships from the movies and books, they also create their own, original ships for the purposes of the games.

Of ALL the games made, which ships are you fond of? Or perhaps not? Myself, The ArcHammer Factory ship from DarkForces struck me as an interesting design and concept.

I've always liked the Moldy crow from Dark Force. It is a good looking craft.
Arc Hammer was also pretty neat.

Most SW ship designs in the games, to me, are pretty generic. Don't really offend the eye, but nothing to write home about either.

I liked the missile boat in Tie Fighter. It was the only ship that had the SLAM engines, and the tons of missiles it could carry were helpful in shooting down those pesky A-Wings and TIE Defenders. Only one laser could make dogfights tough at times, but it wasn't a deal-breaker IMO.

Or perhaps not?
I could have a field day with this one.

Old Republic Battle Cruiser(the hammerhead ones from KotoR) looked like shit. Although the Dreadnought-like and the verticle fighters were cool.

I didn't much care for the Ebon Hawk either.

TIE Hunter. Smaller than a TIE or X wing, yet it has 4(iirc) laser canons, two torpedo launchers, ion cannons, and shields. You couldn't of given us a Defender? Thats what we all really want anyways.

The Raven's Claw. I always expected one of those engines to just break off and fly uncontrollably into something. Plus I wouldn't want to be the one that goes with Kyle on long distance hyperspace jumps.

The Outrider(I don't know if it was seen before Shadows of the Empire) was stupid.

Victory-II Stary Destroyers from Battlefront II are way too flat.

Desann's Pod droping Star Destroyer. Now had he just made some sort of landing ship and had a couple of Star Destroyers tag along he might of accomplished something.

I did like the Jedi transport though, nothing fancy, designed to be what it need to be.

Most everything in Battle for Naboo that was original.

You mean the ship almost as long as an Executer but thinner then an ISD?

I've always liked the Moldy Crow and the Ebon Hawk myself, as well as the Sith fighter.

As for not, while the Doomgiver has a decent look to it IMO, its design and purpose are horrible.

Otana. Awesome ship, and fits right in.

I also like the TIE Defender, Missile Boat, and TIE Phantom, but I would have to say that the most logical addition to the SW Saga from games is the assault transport, for its combination of firepower as a troop-transport and also its somewhat realistic performance (ie. incapable of fending off a sustained starfighter attack, and only capable of challenging capital ships in large numbers or by boarding actions).

The Vengeance is a great looking ship, perhaps not as inspired as the Arc Hammer, but I like it. I like to think of it as a Cruiser, or pocket battleship of sorts. It's not the behemoth that an SSD is, but it's still an immense vessel capable of really putting the hurt on whomever you wish. Perhaps when things like huge reactors and smaller crew availability is an issue a ship like this would be more desireable. Large banks of powerplants, and significantly lower crew requirements (good for your crazy evil, rogue, jedi I'd say)

The Hammer is cool, but it's really a it's a construction yard, research center, etc. But that's almost like saying "Wow, that's one badass looking oil refinery complex", that may be true... but a battleship anchored next to it would be of more interest to me.

Probably the assault gunboats from the x-wing games. I've just always liked them for some reason, both in design and flying them. Never really liked the missile boat though, seemed way too overdone to be taken seriously.

I like the Sith capital ships from KOTORs 1&2. The shark mouth design is good for intimidation, if bad for volume.

And I actually like the Hammerhead Republic ships.

I say the TIE Defender for being such wankerage that Lawrence Holland regretted including it, X-Wing Alliance nerfed it and the Galactic Battlegrounds guys were forced to include it through fan demand... although the Missile Boat comes in a close second. :wanker:

But before that, yes, I like the Assault Gunboat; mostly the statistical equivalent to the B-wing, but it seems more... fitting? Before the above two, it's the only Imp fighter with both high warhead capacity and ion cannons for disabling.

The Muurian Transports from TIE Fighter (I think that was their first appearance?). Fast, tough, powerful, and cool-looking.

I have to agree with the gunboat, that's a nice one. I'm also a fan of the various container transports, especially the trains from XWA. The experimental TIE with two balls, one of which houses a bigass turbolaser, seems like a nice idea until you realize that there's only one radiator.

They're not supposed to be VSDs, just frigates with a similar class name.

I like the original Stormtrooper transport introduced in X-Wing. The subsequent Assault Transport introduced in TIE Fighter was good too, but it's armament drove me nuts.

Hah, I loved the original X-Wing troop transport. Mainly because I could shoot them down by the hundreds and not break a sweat. I didn't mind the Assault Transport in TIE Fighter so much. At least not if I was escorting them, as they could take better care of themselves than a whole lot of other things I could name.

But the ship I happened to like to fly was the Assault Gunboat in TIE Fighter. I mean, sure its was a bit pokey and its shields were slow to recharge, but it was just nimble enough to take on most Rebel fighters, and could take a few hits to the chin with no trouble. I especially loved them when one could have special beams (tractor beams and the like) mounted on them. Mostly because I could redirect all the beam power to engines and chase down those pesky A-Wings and rogue TIE Interceptors.

I second the YT-2000 Otana, that was a nice ship, bit like the Correllian Gunship and the one in the endgame sequence to Supremacy where the Imperial Citadel windows are blown out.

The Cygnus X-1 Missile Boat is also amazing.

The Vengeance. It's just so... so... pointy. The Warlords version is also nice to have around.

Agreed, the YT-2000 is my favorite of the EU ships. I love the design, including not having the off set cockpit. I'ts smaller than the Falcon and not considered a freighter, rather a personal transport- with guns :D .

I like to believe that the Corellian ship in Rebellion at the end of a rebel campaign is the YT 1210 we hear about in one of the Rouge Squadron books.

I gotta affirm the Assault Gunboat. An all-around strong craft, but not so absurdly wanked that it becomes boring. Besides, you see TIEs everywhere. Flying with the Gunboat squadron made you feel like an elite.

OTOH, the TIE Defender was just absurd. Let's see, let's make it faster than an A-Wing, pack more armament than an Assault Gunboat, have better shields, a tractor beam and hyperdrive ... all in this little ball attacked to three spindly arms. Yeesh! Overwank much, anyone? The Gunboat was logical. It was larger than your ordinary Imperial fighter, to account for it's shields and hyperdrive. It wasn't absurdly strong; A-Wings could outrun and outmaneuver it, same thing with Interceptors. B-Wings packed comparable firepower and durability. The Defender was just overpowered wank. Also, the Assault Gunboat was designed for a purpose; engaging corvette- and frigate-class vessels that packed too much defensive firepower for TIE Bombers to get close to. Assault Gunboats also had the major advantage of being useful strike craft due to their hyperdrive. The TIE Defender was billed as the "do anything well" fighter that had no equal in any role. It made everything else useless and you wondered why the hell didn't they just use this sucker all the time?

I'll have to agree here too. I never liked the Defender, and always prefered the Avenger Tie. For one, it was the production run of the Vader's ship in ANH.
