I have not yet seen Attack of the Clones, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the first Star Wars "trilogy" (now known as Episodes 4, 5 & 6).

The Phantom Menace seems to me to be in a different vein, and I'm told by those who have seen AotC that it is better (in what way?) than TPM. Obviously there are more computer-generated effects in the newer releases than there were in the older ones, but I very often wonder whether it is because Lucas used real models (rather than computer-generated ones) that I prefer the effects of the older SW movies.

Does anyone else feel the way I do about "older" special effects?

Also, I rather liked the concept of the Ewoks (partisans?). Cuddly but deadly, every home should have one!

Mind you, I was impressed with the scene (and the idea) in TPM where a division of Imperial Battle Droids are unloaded from a troop carrier, and unfold themselves:

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Attack of the Clones (probably on VHS now).

It's a far superior film. I'm not gonna give a full review, suffice to say that the verdict is unanimous- probably because TPM was so bad.

But, a good friend at work has agreed to lend me the AotC movie on video. What a star!

In any case, your comments have served only to make my mind up even more to see it. I'll probably turn into another total fanatic (like most of you) as soon as the movie ends.

In every way. Symbollically it is second only to "Blade Runner," but from your obvious lack of interest in the matter I don't believe that you would care or understand it in the first place. The story is better than TPM. It is a better movie. It is edited better. The plot is more interesting and more engrossing. The scale is larger. The battles are better. It develops more slowly. Its editing is better. Its visual effects are better. Its sounds are more interesting. It is better in every possible way than TPM. I would recommend you buy a DVD player specifically to watch this movie.

The "obvious total lack of interest in the matter" which you refer to is mistaken for a total lack of time, but I will get around to seeing it (probably in the near future). I agree that Blade Runner is a brilliant movie, and there are few films that are as impressive as that one.

A work colleague is just like you - he purchased a DVD player so he could get the current set of released Star Wars movies. He is definitely blown away (or should that be shot away?) by them.

Well, I finally managed to get to see Attack of the Clones. It's extremely impressive (I watched it on VHS) and I must see it again as there were some interruptions to my concentration during the movie.

Yes, it flowed well, and the effects were excellent. Master Yoda is definitely a master! Christopher Lee is always best cast as a "baddie" (also in Lord of the Rings, of course). The battle in the Arena at Geonosis was choc-a-block with brilliant creatures etc etc.

Definitely one for the collection... when I get time to go shopping.
