The Spitfire. The thing's just legendary.
As for jets... I quite like the SU-27 and MiG 29 for reasons that elude me.

Let's see. The F-14, F-4, and F-5 have all been mentioned, so I'll go with the F-20. Yeah, yeah I know F-5, and F-20 are pretty much the same, but these pics are cool.
And here are a few F-5 pics.
As for why, I just love how the F-20, and F-5 look. It has beautiful lines, and it just looks fast and agile.
I like the F-4 because it's unique, mean, and powerful looking.
The F-14 is a perfect blend. It looks unique, big, powerful, mean, fast, and agile.

There is a certain grace to having an open cockpit, twin Vickers .303s dead ahead, a max speed of 120 mph, and decimating agility.
I can't find any photos of the Zepplin/Gotha killers with le Prieur rockets online, but that just makes the classic air supremacy fighter look better. Ascthetic killing machines should be personal and refined.
Wooden cross, Red Cross, or Victoria Cross all the way.
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.
It just doesn't get any better than this, boys and girls.

Anything in the Su-27 FLANKER family. Like the Eagle- but Russian. And what better one to choose than the most advanced model currently in service anywhere:

I have to agree with you there. Saab knows how to make good looking aircraft. (Draken, Viggen, and Gripen)Eleas wrote:The patriotic part of me (which is embarrassing to admit, but there you go) says JAS 39 Gripen.
While I'm here I might as well post a few pics of another favorite of mine...

Also, I found a couple of damn fine F-14D pics.

I have to second the Flanker family, they're simply magnificent warplanes. I happen to have a particular fondness for the Su-35 and -37.

I loved the Su-27 family, the original model was still the coolest in my opinion

I thought the Mig-29 Family was pretty cool too, a la baby Su-27

Again the original models were the coolest, I really don't liked the new versions with the humps, it made them look ugly.

I give thee the Panavia Tornado. I dunno, it's probably something to do with the combination of looks, the swept wings and the seemingly absurd amount of ordnance it can carry.

The F-16 and the F-14 are the two that get my votes. Both are just such incredible machines, I can't choose between them.

Not a fighter, but I've thought the XB-70 was quite sleek: http://www2.interceptor.com/~thumper/xb2/landing.jpg

Just to wander off the beaten path a bit, here's a Brazilian light ground-attack plane called the ALX. It's quite nice looking, in a throwback sort of way. You just don't see many modern prop-driven military aircraft of this size.

That's why I like the F-15 too. In fact, I like the Echo model better with its FAST saddlebags. More built look.Darth Wong wrote:Cool (although I'm not a fan of the swept-forward wings because they look goofy to me). I wonder what makes people prefer a certain design; in my case I like the F-15 because it's a nice mixture of sleek lines and muscularity.
For the same sleek yet tough and solid look, I'm a fan of the Thud.
And there's something about Toms for me. I think the F-14s look better in flight at the normal wing sweep or mid-sweep. Don't particularly care for the max-sweep look and it really deserved the nickname of Turkey on final approach.
All in all, a toss-up between the F-15E and F-105 for me, with Toms as honourable mention. And for props, it's the Brewster Buffalo. Just joking...
