CDs of Star Wars Sound FX?

Post by Coyote »

Here is something I have wondered for a long time, and I cannot think of a better place to ask for advice. Does anyone know if there are any CDs with the Sound Effects of Star Wars out there for commercial sale? Google Searches offer up eleventy skillion links to "Star Wars" but the "Sound FX" part seems to get lost in the shuffle (although only now, as I type this, do I realize I never went to Amazon.com to search specifically in their database... hmmmm...).

I am interested in some good stuff like lightsabers igniting, TIE flybys, blaster sounds, Vader breathing, the rumbling of starship engines, the various computer and machinery activation noises, R2 beepings, etc... I'm thinking of running a Star Wars roleplaying game and would love to add some delicious 'flavor' to the game with good sound FX....

T'anx.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

I find nothing on Amazon, and frankly it wouldn't surprise me, since although LucasFilm's sound effects get used all the time in other works, releasing a sound effects CD would just be a licensing pain in the ass.

There used to be an official series of SW SFX in 3.5" disk format. I only found the ROTJ edition by chance in a bargain bin. That would be about 8 or 10 years ago, so I doubt they're available anywhere these days.

Perhaps if you went looking in the files contained in some of the Jedi knight games, you could find some good sounds. I know for a fact that Jedi Academy has a multitude of saber sounds, blasters and TIE fighter sounds. Similarly, if you check file sites such as jk3files.com, you can find a vader player model which should have some sounds of him.

I was about to suggest the same thing, myself :p

The various games have practically every sound effect in the movies, and the sounds are typically in .wav format. They're usually stored in file library formats, but these are easily decompiled, too.
