Z-95 Headhunter WIP
CLiCKiTY!
Based on Alfred Wong's model, as well as a few things I saw at the Star Wars Deckplan Alliance forum; here's my interpretation of the Z-95 Headhunter. As you can see, it is most definitely still under construction!

Wasn't the HEadhunter the one that was like an X-wing only with one pair of wings? This looks like a totally different ship

Z-95 Headhunter was orginally descripbed as a swingwing craft, but later evolved to the proto X-wing model.

Historically the first ever Headhunters (in Han Solo at Star's End) had a bubble canopy, swing wings, triple blasters and large fins.Manus Celer Dei wrote:Wasn't the HEadhunter the one that was like an X-wing only with one pair of wings? This looks like a totally different ship
THis is my take on it: WEG, needing a picture of a Headhunter in the Tatooine Manhunt module hastily assigned an X-Wing preproduction sketch to it. From then all EU books refer to that sketch to describe them. But when WEG returned to Star's End to write Han Solo and the Corporate Sector SB, they relaized their mistake and went all damage control like by making the swing winged Headhunters an early variant of the Z-95.
Tim Eldred even drew what they looked like in the book and it looks somewhat like Ein's concept, only stubbier.

That's essentially exactly what the Deckplan Alliance people say (look further into the thread), particularly with regard to WEG. I ignore anything WEG-related unless they're the ONLY source on something. I don't even think WEG SW materials are even canon, considering their massive errors in nearly everything they touch <cough>8km Super-class Star Destroyer Executor  </cough>.Old Plympto wrote:Historically the first ever Headhunters (in Han Solo at Star's End) had a bubble canopy, swing wings, triple blasters and large fins.Manus Celer Dei wrote:Wasn't the HEadhunter the one that was like an X-wing only with one pair of wings? Actually while WEG is hardly a goos source for anything, the Z-95 development makes sense since from Han Solo at Star's end we that early Z-95 is not a very good Space combat craft, but the ARC-170 dispite it's size is, but it's on the other hand too big/expensive for militia space superiorty use so Incom starts to develop the Z-95 (which is already a good craft) into something that's more like the ARC-170 and so the late era Z-95 is born.

Intrinsically speaking, what I don't understand is the large design difference in the Z-95 variants (including that X-Winged one in The Phantom Affair), and they still call it variants of the same model.
That's like saying the F-14 is just another variant of the F-4 and renaming it the F-4 Mark 2 Delta. Then they design the F-16, they call it the F-4 Mark 3 XT or whatever.
Can we chalk it up to strange corporate practices on Subpro's part?

HH WIP 2!!!
Massive changes; too many to list. The 'engines' are still just placeholders at this point, but I'll be fleshing them out next...

Perhaps, instead of thinking of them as using exactly the same as modern nomenclature, we should think more in terms of the Z-95 models being like the 1992, 1999, and 2005 Honda Civic, while the T-65 is the Honda Accord.
