Ha! Finally. I was starting to call them Radtroopers, for their resemblance to the Imperial Radiation Zone Stormtroopers from Fragments From The Rim.

Hmm, I wonder what sort of additional capabilities their equipment would need to improve their ability to be airdropped. Standard clonetrooper and stormtrooper armor is already vacuum-capable.

Also, what sort of method would they use to retard their descent? Atmospheric drag parachutes like we do on Earth, or some implementation of repulsor technology?

There are also nice images of Commander Cody, a standard 212th Clone, one of Commander Bacara's Galactic Marines, and a BARC Speeder. Given that the individual Clone pics on Sith Snaps are the same images as the cool gathered Clones picture in the databank entry, expect to see one of Commander Bly's troopers, AT-RT pilots, Kashyyyk clones (scout equipped), 501st clones, Coruscant troopers and a pure white Clone as well eventually, as well as ones of Commanders Bly, Gree, Neyo (Stass Allie's assassin) and Bacara.

Perhaps the same repulsor technology used by the Shadow Academy in its attack on Yavin IV?

How did that work?

In the Clone Wars cartoon, the Clones are seen at least twice using some kind of rocket pack like Boba Fett. I would assume they're rather common in the SW verse, and they also are useful for getting around in space.

There's RPG stats (game mechanics), which are based on a miniature, which is based on its appearance in an EU-level cartoon, so it's not exactly solid on the canonicity scale.. but stats for an "Aratech Hover Pack" that the "Aerial Clone Commander" uses were put out here.
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=st ... w20050324b

I don't think that particular pack is suitable, nor is it cheap and common enough, to be used as a retardation device for dropping large numbers of clone airborne forces. Still, it's possible that some sort of rocket pack is used.

Oh, I just had a thought. From visuals, do you guys think the Fetts' rocket packs are just rocket packs, or do they involve some sort of repulsor tech?

Essentially, its a diposable repulsorlift pack. You wear it on your shoulders, drop from atmosphere to the ground, using the repulsorlift to retard your landing. Presumably, it has some directional abilities as the Shadow Academy stormtroopers and Dark Jedi weren't badly scattered, and Brakiss discarded his backpack after he landed.

Galactic Marine

Note the hands. Those are definately not human and therefore not a clone. It shows pretty conclusively in the movie examples of non-clone Republic fighters.

I'm pretty sure those are gloves. He seems to have five fingers, in gloves.

Are you sure, because I can see fingernails, most notably on his right-hand thumb.

No, I'm not sure, but that's my opinion, given what he looks like. I'd also assume that regardless of clone or non-clone, a soldier in the Galactic Republic's ground forces would have full NBC protection.

I'm just saying that the hands looks really knobby and mottled, like skin, plus appear to have fingernails. The rest of him is well covered, but his hands look bare with the exception of the backhand piece of a gauntlet.

Well, the film footage isn't conclusive, but I'll note that they're all of the same species (if those are indeed hands) and they're all the exact same height...

Also, their bodygloves seem to be the same hue as their hands.

The left hand doesn't exhibit any such fingernails. I'm pretty sure it's just a part of the bodyglove.

The clone in the image simply got his gloves dirty fighting on Mygeeto, which is an ash covered planet. The whole CG clone model is coated in ash, dirt and scratches.

it's far more likely that that "nail" is just a fold in the glove that looks like a finger nail from a certain angle and the skin like look could because of the material used (like leather)

I don't think it is wearing a body glove. Look at the things elbow joint. Underneath the thing's armored elbow pad is the same sort of thick light grey cloth that its pants are made out of.

Interestingly enough there is a neat detail. On the soldiers right leg under the coat there is the edge of a pocket. The soldier is wearing light grey cargo pants. :)

But it's not really all that ash covered. Look at the soldiers boots and knees. You'd think they'd be really grubby from all the ash, but while they are dinged and scratched alot, they are still white for the most part, not caked on ash grey. Ash, after all, has a tendancy to stick, even to plastic bits. Given how grey and mottled its hands are, I don't think they are merely ash covered, since the rest of him (particularly the cloth bits) aren't all that ash covered and since hands are highly mobile, the ash would shake off except for a thin layer.

And the hands really don't look human. The fingers look very long and bony, which isn't true of gloved humans.

Besides, I thought Mygeeto was arctic, not ash covered.

Repulses, in one of the X-Wing books pilots of atmospheric fighters had small repulsors on cables, which lowered them to the ground after ejecting. A parachute would have the disadvantage of being highly sensitive to atmospheric conditions. Higher or lower air pressure would change the rate at which the person using it falls, and in a vacuum the chute of course wouldn’t work at all.

First, Mygeeto is artic and ash covered. From the SW.com databank:
The blistering cannonades and laserfire of towering Separatists tri-droids and Republic artillery carriers reduced much of the city and crystalline landscape into rubble, polluting the icy winds with a persistent pall of gray ash
Second, it is perfectly conceivable for the soldiers gloves to be more noticebly ashy than the rest of his uniform. They are colored black so the grey ash on the planet will be much more noticible on them as opposed to on the his maroon armor and grey/white trousers. For all we know he has been using his hands to brush the ashes off of his armor and equipment.

For me, it comes down to the simple fact that the idea of the soldier being some sort of alien who inexplicably chose to protect every part of his body except for his hands in an artic climate, makes far less sense than the idea that he simply is wearing a dirty pair of gloves.

White and light colors show dirt and crap much more readily than dark colors. And his shoes and knees would still have alot of ash on it and ash sticks, it would be very noticable. Particularly since he's wearing cloth (of some kind) pants.

Furthermore, why would the back of the soldiers fingers be covered with ash if it wiped ash off something? Wipe your hand on a dusty surface. Does the back of your hands get dirty?
For me, it comes down to the simple fact that the idea of the soldier being some sort of alien who inexplicably chose to protect every part of his body except for his hands in an artic climate, makes far less sense than the idea that he simply is wearing a dirty pair of gloves.
Absolutely right, it would make sense to wear gloves, but the fact of the matter is that it really doesn't look like the soldier there is wearing gloves, it looks like a bony longfingered hand with mottled grey skin, complete with fingernails. People wearing gloves don't have bony looking hands, due to the thickness of the glove, unless the glove is like latex.

I'm just saying what I'm seeing, nothing more.

all I see is something that might be interpited as a fingernail on one finger (right hand thumb), but also several features that can't exist on living creatures as we know them (like seems on the left hand fingers) and those finger aren't so thin that there couldn't be gloves (I tested that (on myself)) and the only part of the armor that isn't dirty are the pants, the knee pads and the upper part of the Boot (all which are under that jacket or Skirt when the trooper is standing in anything resembling a reasonble pose.

You're blind. He has four fingers all right; admittedly, on both hands the little finger is very hard to see, but upon enough scrutiny it's very well right damn there. :P
