Hyperdrive vs Quantum Slipstream Drive

Post by A-Wing_Slash »

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but this has been nagging me for a while.

First off, how do the two drives compare. They seem to be of similar speeds, and are able to send ships across signifigant
portions of the galaxy in very short periods of time. Although it was rather unreliable for when Voyager used it, its conceavable
that Starfleet can study it and learn how to use it properly.

How big an advantage would this be for the Federation, versus SW and Hyperdrive? Is Slipstream fast enough to keep up with Hyperdrive?
Also, is speed really that important when SW has such a huge firepower and sive advantage? I doubt it would give the Federation any edge,
but Slipstream could make a conflict far more exciting than in the scenarios on the main site.

Lastly, I got a crazy idea. Could Slipstream be an early version of Hyperdrive?
They both are fast, and they both look like narrow tunnels. Given a few milleniae to develop, would slipstream turn out to be a precursor to
Hyperdrive as we know it?

Happy New Year!

Was slipstream the warp 10 method that turned people into lizards, or the version used by the Borg transit hubs?

It's the supercharged warp drive used on the fake Dauntless. It was designed by a species that was wiped out by the Borg, has insanely fast speeds compared to standard warp drive, and you can convert a warp drive to a slipstream drive quite easily. The downside is that it requires a few fragile exotic components to make it tick, and that it requires constant calibration while in-flight.

Wasn't hyperdrive explained as travelling at a tachyonic state or something ? If so, it's a similar-looking but different mechanism.

We've done it before and I'll repeat what has been done before.

Yes, it could make it interesting but in what way. They do not have the firepower.

And two, no the Federation couldn't given they barely managed TRANSWARP for EIGHTY YEARS.

So just locking because you can use the search button to find these answers.
