New Millennium Falcon model, anyone bought one?

So while cruising two of my favorite site, I see that a new high detail model of the Millennium Falcon has been released.

Reading through the history of what it toook to get the kit created, looks like Fine Molds' did a lot of work with ILM and the orginal model from EST abd ROTJ - over 600 photos.

The thing is a massive jigsaw to put togehter, 900 peices. The review and description it goes toether in a fashion similar to how the orginal prop model was built, tons of detial parts added onto the main hull.

I was looking at getting one, I've always like the MF and this kit looks pretty damn challengeing - did I mention 900 parts. Then I saw the price $160 US, ouch!!.

Given that the sites that give it such glowing reviews are also selling it, I'm taking some of the reviews with a touch of salt. So I want to see if anyone here has bit the bullet and dropped the coin for a kit and what they thought of it, was it worth it?

It doesn't look like the "fat Falcon", at least not on the pictures over at the HLJ page Azazal linked to.

It doesn't look like the "fat Falcon", at least not on the pictures over at the HLJ page Azazal linked to.

From the Starship Modeler review about 3/4 of the way down - "The MPC Falcon is a much less expensive kit, but it needs some resin bits or a lot more work to bring it up to the detail level of the FineMolds kit. For starters, the sidewalls on the MPC kit are too tall and the cockpit interior needs replacement as well."

The older MPC is probably the one Poe was talking about, the one from Fine Molds was just released mid December.

I could get 7 or 8 Combrig pre-dreadnought kits for the price of that thing...

There's after-market sets (and more on the way) out there to bring the old MPC kit almost to the same level of detail, too.

The biggest plus to me about this is that it's in 1/72nd scale, and that it's complete. But as Spanky said, 240 bucks is simply too much.

Actually I was talking about that $300 dollar "Code 3 Falcon" piece of crap. A die-cast version of the MPC model, right down to the slit in the side to turn the lights on!

This one I haven't seen in finalized form. I'll check it out at home later tonight.

Let's not forget that Lucasfilm specifically made a "new canon" design for the engine detail, as we never actually see what it looks like without the sublights on during the films!

Gents;

The model is beautiful. Probably as close to accurate as you'll get. The entrance ramp is missing a lot of detail, much like the MPC model. And there's something wrong about the cockpit, but I can't pinpoint it right now.

While its a TESB version, it has none of the Falcon's "war wounds." Also, I'm not 100% sure the nose landing gear was used once the Falcon obtained the two forward gear.

I haven't built any of Fine Molds SW kits, but they've got got a pretty good reputation for turning out quality models. On the flip side, I have built multiple kits from MPC/Ertl, only one or two of which were built without extensive application of filler putty and foul language. Given the choice between buying one kit and buying one kit along with all the corrective pieces for the same amount, I'll take just the kit.

I have all of the smaller Fine Molds Starwars kits (don't have Slave 1, have all the others) And these are GOOD kits. the build quality has to be seen to be believed, and they go through extra effort to make sure that you don't need to. All the kits can be painted in a base color, with anything else handled by their excellent, colorful and thin decals, and end up looking good.

Plus everything is in 1:72 scale, unlike the MPC/Ertl models, which were in 1:whothehellcares scale.

Well, I can see two things. One, there's no ridges around the windows; the whole outside of the cockpit is too smooth. Also, I think the tapering part with the windows is just a little too long, though perhaps that's to accomidate the Falcon's interior.
