Good BF2 server & VoIP problem

Post by Tolya »

Could someone suggest a good BF2 server to play on (preferably in Europe)? Where decent and team-oriented people gather and have fun? Because so far it has been a lottery - but for the most part I encounter a bunch of run&gun renegades, who use about as much communication as greek donkeys.

Second thing:

I have a mike, voip is enabled, and it works during testing. But I have a feeling that I cant actually transmit my voice in-game. I press the "talk button", the green speaker icon appears on the right (it obscures to a red one when Im too loud or too close to the mike). But my teammates cant hear anything.

I was playing on a kickass BF2 server that used Ventrillo instead of VOIP. So for the regular players who got on Vent, lots of fun. We could talk regardless of the teams or squads.

Sadly they switched from BF2 to Spec Ops and now the server is empty all the time rather then full.

This might be what your looking for but then again maybe not:

21st Century Warfare

Bascially it's an online tournament (next campaign is starting soon) which uses a mod for BF2 (nothing major, just a few tweaks, though they might be changing some stuff soon). When you join your put into one of four divisions (2 US, 1 Chinese, one MEC) randomly (or you can pay $5 to pick) and each one is organised like a proper army, with chain of command and such. typically a division is divide into sub companies:

For eg. In the last campaign I was in 2MEB which was divided into 3 line companies (Whisky, GOlf and Dragon) (Line companies get assigned the grunt work, taking flags etc.), 2LAR (who get the tanks and things and are normally a mobile assistance force), MAW (aircraft and helo's) and 7MR (veteran players, do whatever is asked of them).

New recruits start in a line company, but if you prove yourself you can ask to try out for a specialist company. Each company has practices and every week there's a battle against one of the other divisions. Battles are 12 hours long (5pm till 5am GMT), 30 players on each team (the spare slots are left open for tournament admins) and you sign up for periods of time, though in most cases you can turn up and fill in if there's space (assuming you've been to a certain number of practices)

Communication is through Teamspeak, not the inbuilt VoiP and it is mandatory that you have teamspeak.
There's a mix of fan created maps and regular BF2 maps, though the regular maps are normally tweaked in someway (adding more tanks for eg.)

The only downside to the whole thing is that the battle servers are in the US so the european players do get some lag, but normally it's nothng major.

But there is a great community, and the level of organisation is so refreshing from the regular public servers which consist of a ton of people camping helo and jet spawns and squad leaders ignoring their commanders and then ranting when they dont get the artillery strike they asked for.

If you do decide to join then when you register and it asks you for a referrer if you had one i'd appreciate it if you put in me (my full title there is: [22ME]W|PFC.2000AD)

I registered, although I have mixed feelings about this for one reason: Im not too flexible when it comes to scheduled matches. I may have time, or I may have not. And this works around scheduled matches which are great to coordinate, but you need some amount of free time.

I used to run a Delta Force squad years ago...

God, I wish I was still in highschool...

Could be a problem, especially since you have to attend some practices to be eligable for the battle too.
This isn't really the stable battle server you asked for. However i have found that at most times there'll be some people from my division online at most times and we go pubbing together and lay the smackdown on the regular servers. Even bringing a small amount of organisation to a chaotic server can change a battle.

Yes, and Im pissed and tired of all those unorganized people.

I swear that I stopped playing multiplayer games because I feel that singleplayer FPS give me more feeling of being a part of a team.

There's nothing better in an online game than realizing that you are participating in real teamplay. I can lose and die hundreds of times and still have fun if my team cares for me and works like an actual military organization.

And I fucking hate bunny hoppers. I have noticed that the more experienced (more points) gamers, the more bunny hopping they do.

Perhaps the best online times were the Operation Flashpoint games I played with my buddy (PeZook, he's on SDN too), as a two-men infiltration/sabotage team on custom maps. Those were the times...*sigh*

--EDIT: fixed grammar...a bit
