Robertson Retort. Let's tear him a new one.

Post by Superman »

In light of his newest hate speech, let's post a few of his past comments.

A couple of my favorites:

"I think George Bush is going to win in a walk. I really believe that I'm hearing from the Lord it's going to be like a blowout election of 2004. It's shaping up that way. The Lord has just blessed him.... I mean, he could make terrible mistakes and comes out of it. It doesn't make any difference what he does, good or bad. God picks him up because he's a man of prayer and God's blessing him."
-- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club television program, , January 2, 2004 ††

I love this part: "he could make terrible mistakes and comes out of it. It doesn't make any difference what he does, good or bad."

"The Constitution of the United States, for instance, is a marvelous document for self-government by the Christian people. But the minute you turn the document into the hands of non-Christian people and atheistic people they can use it to destroy the very foundation of our society. And that's what's been happening."
-- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club television program, December 30, 1981

"These socialists, and they're in there now, starting with the President and his associates ... they want to squeeze out religion because if people read the Bible, they can't be enslaved. You'll never have a socialist government where everybody's Christian."
-- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club television program, February 18, 1994

Because Jesus was a capitalist...

Anyone have any good ones to post?

"Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history."
--Interview with Molly Ivins, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, September 14, 1993

"You don't dare say America or Christianity is a better way of living. When I said during my presidential bid that I would only bring Christians and Jews into the government, I hit a firestorm. 'What do you mean?' the media challenged me. 'You're not going to bring atheists into the government? How dare you maintain that those who believe the Judeo-Christian values are better qualified to govern America than Hindus and Muslims?' My simple answer is, 'Yes, they are.'"
--The New World Order, 1991

"Individual Christians are the only ones really---and Jewish people, those who trust God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob--are the only ones that are qualified to have the reign, because hopefully, they will be governed by God and submit to Him."
--Defending his stance that only Christians and Jews are fit to hold public office, The 700 Club, January 11, 1985

"You say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense, I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist. I can love the people who hold false opinions but I don't have to be nice to them."

How the radioactive cow can you love someone and not be nice to them?
"If one needed proof that a guitar was more than wood and string, that a song was more than notes and words, and that a man could be more than a name and a few faded pictures, then Robert Johnson’s recordings were all one could ask for."

Well, the fundie definiton of "love" includes "saving an unbeliever's soul from eternal hellfire by torturing them into recanting their sins, then execution by slow burning". Just hope you don't live next to one - love thy neighbour, love thy goddamn neighbour.

Gee, i wonder why Islam is called one of the Abrahamic religions then. It's not as if 'Ibrahim' is one of the most important prophets .

Well, I bet most moderates, being 90% of the time woefully ignorant of current events are simply unaware that he made such a comment, and he probably took care not to say it again. On the other hand, remember that some polls show 44% of all people to be creationists, so it could be the combination of a cheaply made show and huge numbers of fundies.

Lots. I've seen figures as high as thirty million, but I'm willing to bet the number of the froth-mouthed core of the movement who really follow everything and aren't just "Go Jesus! Burn the fags and democrats!" is perhaps a tithe of that.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Ask an abusive father. Those types use the same definition of "love", along with lines like "look at what you made me do". Remember, it's always the victim's fault.
