Win 98SE & Hard Drives

Post by Kitsune »

Does anyone know if there is a logic limit on the size of hard drives with Windows 98SE?

I think the limit is something like 127-137GB IF the drive has been formatted in another machine. Otherwise the limit of the built in partitioner is about 64GB.

That's going off memory but I think there's some hacks to allow more disk space, so I'll get back to you on that.

Did some checking. The theoretical limit for the FAT32 filesystem used by Win98SE is 8 terabytes. However the partitioner only works up to 64GB. By formatting in another machine it can be above that.

Remember that some motherboards have a limit of 137GB (127GB useable).

Hope that helps :D
