Design a Feddie ship that can take out an ISD

You have been commisioned to design a ship that can take out an ISD that has been terrorizing the AQ.
Here are the rules:
1. No Imperial technology
2. The design must be able to be mass-produced
3. It must be within the 24th century industrial bounds of the Federation.
4. You may use any other tech from the other AQ powers.
5. Genesis weapons are forbidden.

Goal impossible, any such vessel would need to mass in the billions of tons, hundreds of millions at the least anyway. Such would not be mass producible. I suggest a warp nacelle painted white that broadcasts a notice of federation surrender.

Trying to do that in less than 1000 years seems pretty impossible (29th century fed ships got beaten up by TNG fed ships apparently they didn't make noteworthy progresses in weapons tech).

Maybe they can build a giant gatling gun that launches warp cores out of the barrel instead of metal slug? :mrgreen:

The ship would probably need to have a phase cloak, and fire weapons that can somehow de-phase, otherwise it'd get shredded by turbolaser fire. Which would probably require advancements in Federation tech... (I don't know much about the technology shown on DS9, as I didn't watch it, and it's been a long time since I saw the phase cloak episode of TNG.)

With current tech...impossible unless they can make something that can somehow utilize the Phase cloak in such a technobabble way that it'll affect the core of a ISD to overload.

Actually the phase cloak idea is not a bad one. If you could build a timer on a phase cloak and say phasecloak an asteroid or other dense object, float it into the stardestroyer, preferably near the hypermatter reactor and the timer or remote control goes off and the asteroid suddenly materializes within the ship, you're looking at a mighty big boom.

Hmmm...sounds like just the kind of tactic a certain desperate starship captain my try in the chapters to come.... 8)

This can be done. No before you flame me think. The post was design a ship that can beat an ISD. Design for ST is easy. Look I will show you how.


ST Design member1: Ok lets see...hmmm we will use the quantum phase inverter to give shields to the hull. Than we can run a bypass to the warpcore to boost the power to 1000000 to 1000000 power. That should make sure we can not get hurt.

ST Design member 2:Well what about weapons??

ST Design member1: Well we will use the photon/quantum matrix phaser array. And get the power we need by fluxing the main fussion power plant and feed it back into the warp core...That should give us 10000000 tera tons of fire power.


See I said it could be done

I'm pretty sure a Voyager could have taken on a Imperial Shuttle and win.

Make it the size of a Borg cube and coat every inch of the hull surface in Torpedo tubes.

At that volume it could hold the several million required to do the job as well.

You do know that not every tube would be effective. At most if it was cube, it would only have three sides pointing at a target. There are other shapes of course.

You have powerful attitudinal thrusters, so that you can rotate very swiftly, keeping a loaded face towards the enemy and reloading faces at the back.

First I would see what is known about a Star Detroyer and try to copy it in my design as much as possible after all it is the only way I may be able to beat it

My idea would be to use the time travel technology that they have available and go into the future, or contact the future, to have them send some better weapons. And keep going further and further until they get something that works.


The only other thing I can think of is the phase cloak idea. Though I wonder how effective it will be against an ISD. Were there any vulnerabilities to the phase cloak?

Good point; that would be similar to saying to a WW1 military commander: "You have two years to design a space-faring vessel that can take out that pesky Galaxy-Class starship up there..."

About the only way I coudl think of is to take an oversized shuttle, strip out almost all living quarters and life support systems. Throw in a hugely overpowered reactor core. Leave a single pilot's seat, have them play dead after a near-miss with an ion cannon, when the ISD comes to salvage its prey dump power into thrusters and rush into the docking bay, trigger warp core and pray it does enough damage.

Create a ship full of marines. This ship should have as much power devoted to shields as possible (with luck, enough to withstand one medium turbolaser hit without failing) Give all of them dimensional inverters (yes, I'm aware that prolonged use of this device will eventually kill them), and 20th century machine guns. Have the dimensional inverters preprogrammed to teleport the entire crew to critical locations on the Imperial vessel at the touch of a single buttion.

With any luck, this will enable a well trained crew a chance to board the imperial vessel before they are blown up, and being able to directly access critical areas on the ship, a well-trained crew would have a small chance of successfully capturing the ISD. Of course a federation crew would have no chance whatsoever, but that's not my problem.

The Federation could use the exploding bridge console against Imperial ships.

Realistically, the best they could do is modify a ship to be more efficent and carry a higher payload of torpedoes, with the ability to fire several at a time. Still, that wouldn't be much of a match for an ISD.

The USS RTUTGU

This 10 mile long ship has a hull constructed of solid depleted uranium coated in a steel shell several feet thick. When I say solid I mean solid, filling the entire hull, making up 99% of the ship's interior space.

It is shaped like a giant rounded spike. It is only a quarter of a mile in diameter despite being 10 miles long.

It has the most ridiculously overpowered drive system the Fedration has ever built, and can sustain 0.9 C without any AMRE assistance.

It attacks the ISD by warping towards it, dropping out of warp, and ramming it at nine-tenths of the speed of light.

Have a ship that cloaks, and can launch modified shuttlecraft in Quantum Slipstream. Voyager has shown to be able to sustain shuttlecraft in Slipstream for a few seconds, which is all that's needed. Have those "torpedoes" loaded with subspace transporters with antimatter in the pattern buffer. Sit FAR away, and launch the "torpedoes" at the ISD. As they drop out, they subspace transport the antimatter into places inside the ISD that antimatter is not supposed to be.

Alternatly.

Same as above, only have moified Borg Nanoprobes. Soon, if you're lucky, you'll have a brand new pet ISD.
