What is this song about?

"Man's unfailing capacity to believe what he prefers to be true rather than what the evidence shows to be likely and possible has always astounded me...God has not been proven not to exist, therefore he must exist." -- Academician Prokhor Zakharov

Video doesn't work for me, but from the description and such, I think I know what it is.

It's a song called "Moskau" performed by the late 70s-early 80s West German pop band/dance act called Dschinghis Khan, released in 1979. It was used as the theme for the 1980 Moscow Olympic games.

The song and video are one of the major memes over at YTMND.

I hate to sound callous, but I already knew that much. I was hoping for a translation of the lyrics, or at least a general impression on what it meant.

It's basically singing praises of Moscow and Russia. Here are the lyrics, see if someone here can translate them:

Moskau
Fremd und geheimnisvoll
Türme aus rotem Gold
Kalt wie das Eis
Moskau
Doch wer dich wirklich kennt
Der weiß, ein Feuer brennt
In dir so heiß

Kosaken hey hey hey hebt die Gläser
Natascha ha ha ha du bist schön
Towarisch hey hey hey auf das Leben
Auf Dein Wohl Bruder hey Bruder ho

Moskau, Moskau
Wirf die Gläser an die Wand
Russland ist ein schönes Land
Ho ho ho ho ho, hey
Moskau, Moskau
Deine Seele ist so groß
Nachts da ist der Teufel los
Ha ha ha ha ha, hey
Moskau, Moskau
Liebe schmeckt wie Kaviar
Mädchen sind zum küssen da
Ho ho ho ho ho, hey
Moskau, Moskau
Komm wir tanzen auf dem Tisch
Bis der Tisch zusammenbricht
Ha ha ha ha ha

Moskau
Tor zur Vergangenheit
Spiegel der Zarenzeit
Rot wie das Blut
Moskau
Wer deine Seele kennt
Der weiß, die Liebe brennt
Heiß wie die Glut

Kosaken hey hey hey hebt die Gläser
Natascha ha ha ha du bist schön
Towarisch hey hey hey auf die Liebe
Auf Dein Wohl Mädchen hey Mädchen ho

Moskau, Moskau
Wirf die Gläser an die Wand
Russland ist ein schönes Land
Ho ho ho ho ho, hey
Moskau, Moskau
Deine Seele ist so groß
Nachts da ist der Teufel los
Ha ha ha ha ha, hey
Moskau
Lala lala lala la, lala lala lala la
Ho ho ho ho ho, hey
Moskau, Moskau Lala lala lala la, lala lala lala la
Ha ha ha ha ha
Oh, oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh
Moskau, Moskau

Moskau, Moskau
Wodka trinkt man pur und kalt
Das macht hundert Jahre alt
ha ha ha ha ha, hey
Moskau, Moskau
Väterchen dein Glas ist leer
Doch im Keller ist noch mehr
Ha ha ha ha ha

Moskau, Moskau
Liebe schmeckt wie Kaviar
Mädchen sind zum küssen da
Ha ha ha ha ha
Moskau, Moskau
Komm wir tanzen auf dem Tisch
Bis der Tisch zusammenbricht
Ha ha ha ha ha, hey!

Next time, include that in your OP, instead of just pasting the link in there and saying, "Hurr, whazzit aboot?"

see if someone here can translate them:
It's been a while since I've been in Germany, but here goes :

(and mind you, a lot is lost in translation)
Moscow
Strange and full of secrets
Towers of Red Gold
Cold as ice
Moscow
But those who truly know you
Know that a fire burns
so hot in you

Cossacks hey hey raise your glasses
Natascha ha ha ha you're beautiful
Towarish (?) hey hey hey on life
On your brother, hey brother ho

Moscow, Moscow
Throw your glasses to the wall
Russia is a beautiful land
ho ho ho ho, hey
Moscow, Moscow
Your soul is so great
At night the Devil is released
Moscow, Moscow
Love tastes like caviar
Girls are for kissing
Moscow, Moscow
Come we dance on the table
until the table breaks apart

Moscow
door to the past
mirror to the time of Tsars (?)
Red as blood
Moscow
Who knows your soul, knows that love burns
glowing hot

(repeat Cossack verse)

(repeat glasses verse)

Moscow, Moscow
One drinks Vodka pure and cold
it makes you a hundred years old
Moscow, Moscow
Father dear your glass is empty
but there's more in the cellar

(repeat caviar verse)

Are you telling me to find another way of asking what a song is about other than asking - explicitly asking - what the song is, indeed, about?

Hurr.

Thank you very much, Bounty.

Yeah, such as indicating first thing that you already know what the song is and who it's by.

Also, you could have avoided saying "I hate to sound callous," because it came off as exactly that. A "thanks, I already knew that" could have sufficed.

You mean like saying "...a curious song named Moskau." or some other different way of stating the title that doesn't involve the title? Saying a song's title and artist does not reveal the content of the song. What a song is "about."

Am I unaware of vastly different meanings of the word "about" between New England to whereever you two live?

Sorry, it's just that it seemed like you didn't know any information about it, so I figured that I'd at least provide what I knew about it, so that at least it wouldn't have been floating in space undefined.

The fact that it was titled "Moscow" in the first place should have clued you in. :P

I was afraid that someone was going to be cute and say that. I probably should have put a disclaimer for that in the OP. :P
