City of Heroes Costume Creator

Post by Shadowhawk »

In anticipation of the Korean release of City of Heroes, NCSoft has released a stand-alone Costume Creator.

You can obtain it here:
http://download.coh.co.kr/Client/CCC_Setup.exe

It is approximately 200 megs, and contains ALL the costume creation options available in City of Heroes right now (nothing exclusive from City of Villains).

The installer and costume creator itself is in Korean, but you can fix the costume creator to be in English:
In Regedit, navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cryptic\KRCOH"
Modify the 'Locale' entry to 0. Then right-click the KRCOH folder, click Permissions, and click both check-boxes for Deny for whatever user is going to use this software (I just did administrator).

Now you can play with what is probably the best MMO character creator without having to buy and sign up for the game!

By the way, if anyone wants, I have two 14-day Friend Passes for CoH. If you want to try out the game, PM me. First come, first serve! (Note, you will have to download the game to use the Friend Passes, which is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.2 gigs. You can download it before you enter the 14-day code, though).

Can you save your work as an image file?

Yes, after you create the costume, you can click Next to see some of the in-game animations (they're all emotes), and there's a Screenshot button.

FINALLY! I have been waiting literally YEARS for this. Finally we'll be able to test costumes before we blow tons of influence using them, only to find out that the jacket obviously clips through the shoulders or something equally as stupid.

Hmm...this makes me actually want to try the game out since I have a trial key somewhere (came with an issue of pc gamer I think).

Is it possible to get enough of a feel for this particular game within (probably) 14 days to decide whether this game is worth actually signing up for?

I tried to do this, but Software\Cryptic\KRCOH didn't exist. Is there another way of translating it into English?

I also ran into that. The folder appears after you run the program for the first time.

I guess I should've been more clear. Install the program, run it once, THEN navigate to that part of the registry.

Frankly, the costume editor is the best part of City of Heroes. :D

That said, the editor is probably the best one in an MMO that I've played evar, so that's not saying too much.

I downloaded the costume creator, but the english hack isn't working for me. Oh, I can change the registry value of the file but when I right click on the KRCOH file I don't have a Permissions in the menu to select.

Quite neat. Is there any talk of a CoV version?

CorSec: If you aren't using WinXP, I don't think you have a Permissions option.

Tasoth: From what I understand, Cryptic (the developers of CoH) weren't even aware that the Korean division had released this. I presume they're talking internally about releasing a native English version, but whether they include CoV costuming with it or not, is even more speculative.

Grandmaster: Try updating your video drivers?

I figured that was the case. This is a pretty cool find any way you cut it, though.

EDIT: For Win2k users. Perform the above steps using regedt32 instead of regedit. The only difference is you can't right click the folder. Instead select Security > Permissions...
