I know several people willing to buy an Xbox360 just for this.

Why would you want to? It's going to be on PC, and I'd much rather play an RPG on PC than a console.ggs wrote:I know several people willing to buy an Xbox360 just for this.

Not to mention the fact that the PC version will ship with the latest Elder Scrolls editor and toolset, on top of being able to use the mountain of mods that will be produced with same.

Because a system designed to run Obivlion is going to run you around $1,500 in upgrades or 2000$ with a brand new system.Vympel wrote:Why would you want to? If you want to run Oblivion with all the shinny's turned on that is. The Xbox360 lets you do the same thing for $400 +60$

I'll be getting the PC version, and I'll be enjoying Oblivion, and all its mods, at a 1920x1200 resolution on a 24" display, powered by 2 7800 GTXs in SLI, an A64 X2 4800+ and 2 GB of RAM.Mr Bean wrote:Because a system designed to run Obivlion is going to run you around $1,500 in upgrades or 2000$ with a brand new system.Vympel wrote:Why would you want to? Artillery. Its what's for dinner.
Back in June 2002, I got my new PC- the one I'm using now. Morrowind came out shortly after, and it was one of the first games I played on it. I intend to get a new PC this year (I normally upgrade every three years, but this one has been so good that I've retained it for longer) anyway, so no harm done. And yeah, XBox360 will look shit compared to PC.Mr Bean wrote: Because a system designed to run Obivlion is going to run you around $1,500 in upgrades or 2000$ with a brand new system.

And a nice, large, HD TV costs HOW much? Even a modest 20" TV can run you around $600-$1,000. Suddenly, a $1,500-$2,000 "out your ass" number seems much more reasonable.Mr Bean wrote:Because a system designed to run Obivlion is going to run you around $1,500 in upgrades or 2000$ with a brand new system.Vympel wrote:Why would you want to? Seriously, where did you get that anyway? You can buy a brand new computer with damn near ALL the bells and whistles for that. A new graphics card with all the shinies will set you back around $500, tops. A new stick of RAM? Not that much. My bet is that if you could run Morrowind well, an $700-$1,200 upgrade is much more reasonable. If you couldn't run Morrowind well, I'm sorry, but that's too bad. If you're still using the same computer, it simply will not run most modern games well, period.
Patches and Mods only available on the PC version by the way. That alone is worth any extra cost. Why? FREE GAME CONTENT.
For people who have been playing on the computer for years, nothing will change - they'll only buy the PC version. There is literally nothing the X-Box version has that will top it. Period. For gamers who already have an HDTV and an X-Box 360, they won't bother getting an awesome gaming rig. Nothing will change, there will be a few converts on both sides, but the status quo will remain.
Sorry, but with the HDTV tech comes a much higher price tag. Eventually, gaming consoles will be roughly as costly as computers. By all rights, they're just as expensive now, it's just that Sony and Microsoft are willing to eat the losses to sell more games, where the real money is. IIRC, it's only this year that Sony started turning a profit from the PS2, and Microsoft has yet to turn an actual profit from the X-Box. Just wait until they wake up and start realistically pricing consoles to gain a profit (or hell, just break even). We'll see which is more expensive for an upgrade then. It'll be even funnier since consoles are already heading towards a PC model already.

Not to mention the latest test rig was apprently a pair of 6800GSes running at 1024X768 just for the anti aliasing. Or so the grapevine goes.Seggybop wrote:According to the official forums, the developers are generally using machines with Radeon 9800 pro cards. No multiplayer. IIRC in an interview a few months ago they hinted that such a feature was being considered for the next TES installment.

That's not the game's fault. However, they're at least making a good effort to reach people with older machines. Can't ask for much more than that.Losonti Tokash wrote:Because my computer is total shit. It barely runs Windows anymore, let alone a game as pretty as Oblivion.Vympel wrote:Why would you want to? Whereas I'll be playing it on a 40" display with a 5.1 surround system that kicks 100w to every channel, from the comfort of my sofa, with a wireless controller.Arrow wrote:I'll be getting the PC version, and I'll be enjoying Oblivion, and all its mods, at a 1920x1200 resolution on a 24" display, powered by 2 7800 GTXs in SLI, an A64 X2 4800+ and 2 GB of RAM.
Which I far prefer, frankly.
And as for mods, I recall that the single best mod for Morrowind was the one that removed the Cliff Racers. That's not my definition of great extra content.

You still suffer from poor resolution, that and a crummy controllerVendetta wrote:Whereas I'll be playing it on a 40" display with a 5.1 surround system that kicks 100w to every channel, from the comfort of my sofa, with a wireless controller.Arrow wrote:I'll be getting the PC version, and I'll be enjoying Oblivion, and all its mods, at a 1920x1200 resolution on a 24" display, powered by 2 7800 GTXs in SLI, an A64 X2 4800+ and 2 GB of RAM.

1280x720 is enough. Hell, I never seriously played PC games beyond 1024x768 even when I was able to. Unless you have your nose stuck to the screen, the law of diminishing returns starts to kick in hard as resolutions go up, as most things don't stay on screen long enough for you to notice the extra detail that higher resolutions afford.InnocentBystander wrote:You still suffer from poor resolution, that and a crummy controller
And the X360 controller is the best on earth. Playing Morrowind with the mouse, and flailing it around like a spastic to produce largely similar attacks was an excercise in armache. If I wanted armache, I'd be browsing for porn, it's more rewarding.
