Why? It looked like a standard issue Taser to me.ggs wrote:I bet that tazer used on Caldwell doesnt feature normal batteries.
It's also interesting what the Taser did.
The real question is how long has Caldwell been snaked, and how long has the Trust had access to him. Remember he was gunning as the military lead of the Atlantis expedition.
It looks like an electrical shock will disrupt a Goa'uld's control of their host. In season 1 Jack shot Skarra/Khorel with a Zat and for about twenty seconds, Khorell lost control. Now when Sheppard shot Caldwell with the taser, the eyes flashed 'off' and Caldwell himself managed to claw his way out of Goa'uld control for long enough to tell Sheppard the access code. At a guess, it's all because the electrical shock disrupts the CNS of the host which the Goa'uld co-ops.

Of course, it probably depends on the relative strength of the host. Skara and Caldwell were probably throwing everything they had into breaking past the Goa'uld in their heads and when the Goa'ulds control slipped, they were able to gain control for a short time. Where as the hosts of major Goa'uld have been supressed for so long that they just don't have any fight in them.

You know, that reminds me:
When the heck are we gunna see more Baal? The end of the last episode he was in featured a whole SLEW of clones. I want to see more along the lines of that episode (different, of course, but something more Earth-centric).
And I still think he looks DAMNED sexy in a suit, and I'm a straight male.

yeah we do need more of Baal, it would be interesting if the snake in Caldwell was a Baal clone just for laughs if nothing else.

Well he had one in his head. I would think it'd be valuable to glean the information he has taken and perhaps help undermind the Trust.Jason von Evil wrote:So, will Cadwell remain commander of the Daedalus or will he be replaced?
I will like pony-tail man at the fact that he may be the pompous bastard, but he'll faint at the sight of a warrior. Damn pussy.
So, Baal is going to be torturing Teal'c. I wonder if this'll be O'Neill level torture...
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Probably not, he's aparently convinced the trust that he isn't as sadistic as he was because he likes earth or something like that...Soontir C'boath wrote:Well he had one in his head. Part of that was probably because they needed people for us to suspect. How many Stargate recurring characters were there in that episode?
Zlenka, Caldwell, Dr. Novak, Hermiod, Lt. Cadman, Walter, Barrett, Dr. Lee, and General Landry. Damn! Stargate writes its recurring characters into an ensemble piece much better than Star Trek.
Anyway, I also hope we get some pathos and then later Goa'uld tech asskicking from Caldwell. Remember back when Goa'uld infestation was a death sentence?
As for the singing, I liked it; it was quite lyrical, if a little out of place. And Miss Luttrell has a beautiful voice.
Is it a crime to try and learn the truth? Is it a sin to search for those things which you fear? My purpose in this world is knowledge, and the dissemination of it. And it is I who is to restore the fruits of my labors to the entire world. Wake up! Don’t be afraid of knowledge! Humans who loose the capacity to think become creatures whose existence has no value. Think, you humans who are split into two worlds! Unless you want the gulf between humans to expand into oblivion, YOU MUST THINK! - Schwarzwald

Unfortunately if they'd kept that they would have had to save the episode for the season finale. But yeah, it would need to be something that is brought up later on.
Also does anyone else believe that the previews for next week seem to point to McKay getting halucinations...

I was going to mention that the 101 Dalmations/Lord of the Rings scene was goddamned priceless, but I've been beaten to the punch. I was cracking up at that one.

I hated the Teyla singing part. When people do that and it sounds completely fake, I just have to mute it. (Didn't know it was Luttrell's voice) Maybe if she had started off singing on her own and then the whole thing expanded to cover that "We're Working To Beat The Odds" part, I would have been ok with it.
I was suprised when it turned out to be Agent Skinner being the bad guy. I hope he comes back. He's a cool actor.

While I do like the actor, and I definitely thought him being the Goa'uld was excellent for several reasons, the "z0mg we wil pwn teh goauld and u wil be ok lol" was pretty lame. If you're going to use a recurring character like that, at least have the balls to follow through instead of copping out.
Also, the whole sideplot was pretty stupid. The only good thing was the music, but that's because instead of paying attention to the funeral, my friend and I acted out the last stand of Space Marines against a Tyranid horde and dying heroically.

Perhaps two missing cruisers may have tipped off the Wraiths. From a previous episode, we know they keep tabs on the disposition of their hive ships. That doesn't necessarily mean they do the same for cruisers, but perhaps it explains why Atlantis didn't destroy the two ships outright.NecronLord wrote:What was the tactical issue? Why not just send the Daedalus and the jumpers to destroy the cruisers? Even a single well placed squid can mission kill the things. Though hiding is preferable, they'd not be hard to overcome in battle. It would have been nice to have a mention of the reason for needing to hide was to ensure that the cruisers didn't inform their queens...

Yes, the LOTR reference had me falling out of my chair. Many, many good recurring characters on both shows, I give the "SG Block" a solid A this week.
