With some special editions you got the score on a separate disc, though I think this was the most expensive one Valve offered over Steam.

Me? I just extracted the music from the main directory. There's no track info on anything this way and you have HL and HL2 music mixed up it seems, but you get it all and in good quality.

You'll need this to view the files and then go to <Your Steam Directory>\steamapps\source sounds.gcf which should give you a subdirectory of \hl2\sound\music\. Copy the files to where you want them.

You'll need to fool around a bit with GCFScape, but then you can access all of the various sound effects, voices and music tracks in HL2.

Thanks everyone, I don't care for track information, just the music :)

I'd recommend Suitsong 3, track 14 of Half-Life 2 (that's the airboat escape) and anything regarding the "A Red Letter Day" and "We Don't Go To Ravenholm...".

How would I go finding out which Song(thats the filenames) is which track(I've extracted track 14 but it dosn't fit the airboat) and which part of the game? Do you have a list? *considers extracting everything*

EDIT: found suitsong.

Just extract it all and listen. That's the best way to pick out what I mean.

I never get tired of Breen.

Ah, forgot about the dialogue files. Yes, those are entertaining too. You can do that for Half-Life as well, and even, in some cases, make out some of the muffled speech in instances when the G-Man is behind a door talking to someone.

The Nihilanth quote about Gordon being a man, but "he is not", referring to the G-Man is interesting.

If you have the original Half-Life, you can get the track titles for all those songs off of there. (The HL2 versions are MUCH higher quality.)

On the topic of programs able to view large information files for computer games... are there any DAT decompilers out there for games in general? I want to sell my copy of Indigo Prophecy, but I'd like to extract the Angelo Badalamenti songs first.

I've also found the overwatch to be quite interesting as well.

"Citizen reminder: inaction is conspiracy. Report counter-behavior to a civil protection team immediately."
