IIRC TIEs had trouble using stutter fire and they broke shield trios.

Especially after the Vong-Infiltrators were eliminated.

And yet the Empire still won. They are dependant more on heavy ships than fighters, unlike the NR; even the Remnant still uses TIEs pretty much as swarmers.
